Trump tells WSJ - I would keep parts of Obamacare
In his first interview since the election, Donald Trump tells the Wall Street Journal that he may be willing to leave in place two key elements of President Obama's healthcare reform law.
The provision allowing children to stay on their parents' healthcare plan until the age of 26, as well as the prohibition against insurers denying coverage because of pre-existing conditions may remain in place, he said.
“I like those very much,” Mr. Trump said about those two elements of the law, which he had previously vowed to "repeal and replace".

we can't afford those without the mandatory participation ...that was the only way they could compromise in the last go round.. so what he is saying is...get rid of dinner, but keep dessert. sounds good..is not sustainable.

And the insurance companies are rubbing their hands with glee, because they get to raise our rates AGAIN. Yippee!!!

From this Business Insider article: Health policy experts have told Business Insider over the last few days that Republicans do not have the filibuster-proof majority needed to repeal these parts of the law anyway.

I don't think the kids staying on the policy until 26 would be unsustainable. It's the lowest cost group any how. I'd agree with you on the pre-existing conditions - but the reality is the mandate isn't working now any way. The people gaining insurance are primarily through medicaid expansion - so they're not paying in anyway. There's still 20 millionish who are just paying the fine. I agree that it's not sustainable - but that's because it doesn't solve any of the underlying problems, not because the mandatory participation would fix it. There's still a whole lot more work to be done to fix this mess!

Those are 2 of the features he couldn't repeal anyway.

That certainly didn't take long.
I hope he'll continue to try and make sensible decisions.

Any changes made to the ACA by President Trump will have no impact on 2017 rates or coverage. That is certainly the plan, as it was with the ACA. The insurance companies get to do whatever they want. Who's going to stop them? Our representatives stay in power by taking their money. There is where the real corruption in American politics lies.

Well, that certainly helps me breathe a it easier. If we can trust him. Especially keeping kids on until age 26. DD needs to stay on my insurance as long as possible. As for after that, I hope she can get insurance and won't uninsurable due her type 1 diabetes and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. So far her health care costs for the year are over 100K and still rising. Without insulin she'd die and without the arthritis medicines she would be in miserable pain. Even with them she often is.
