But if everyone thinks the same, how can we discuss which way the toilet paper should hang & why and how to know if I should go to the doctor or not based on symptoms or if cake should be frosted or iced or the difference between stuffing & dressing?
There is much more to this board than political threads.
How will I know what I should buy in England (treats) or let people know what is available only in Canada?
This board is so much more than Trump & Clinton.
I want to see pictures of new babies, prom dresses , wedding pics and hear of which pea's got accepted at which college or university.
I want new recipes to try and to help a pea decorate their room.
This is an international message board. Let's keep it going!

I do not believe that all those who voted for Trump are racist misogynist. I believe that many those who voted for Trump believe they can swallow racist misogyny in the name of putting their own interests ahead of larger principles. And those interests are about to get played. Just like they always do when it comes to the 1% sharing w/anyone other than other 1%ers. This can't be repeated enough. Save

But, but, liberals are supposed to be the weenies here because we're concerned and upset about the potential erosion of people's basic civil rights. You're telling me conservatives can be run off just by being called names? You voted for the man, own it. Liberals have dealt with eight years of immense disrespect directed toward us and our administration. Sticks and stones and all that. Maybe she posted this so people could try reflecting on whether their words and tone are bordering on unhinged. Sticks and stones? You're so cute.

Not true of course. What you and others seem to be missing -- what I've said several times already and I guess I'll be saying a lot over the next four years -- is that it's not the REPUBLICAN winning that has us all upset. If an ordinary Republican had won we would be sad of course, as is always the case with whichever side loses, but then we would move on as we always do in this country. No, it's the fact that TRUMP won. Leaving aside everything else that he's said, one that really upsets me is the one caught on that audio where he says he can grab women by their private parts and they "let" him, and he can do it because he's a star. This is such an abuse of power. Yes, Bill Clinton abused that power also. And if we'd known that about him before the election, specific incidents, then I wouldn't have voted for him either. Because this is the OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT that we're talking about here. The president needs to be held to a higher standard even, never mind an ordinary standard of common decency. So this is why we're so upset. And this is why we cannot understand people who seem to have overlooked that aspect of Trump to vote for him. Especially the same people who have been saying "there's no class in the White House" for eight years. None of them were ever able to articulate exactly why President and Michelle Obama had "no class". Unless we have a totally different definition of "class", mine does not include grabbing women (or men) by their private parts. This Is Who Is To Blame For Trump

All people have to do is SCROLL PAST THE POSTS THEY DON'T WANT TO READ!! Sorry for yelling, but I just don't understand why people can't do this! The political posts are bound to have something in them that each one of us doesn't like. If someone can't deal with that or just doesn't want to see it, then those someones don't have to open up the darn post! My thing is Christmas. I do not like Christmas. I'm already having to scroll past bunches of Christmas posts (poor Thanksgiving ). No, there aren't insults in Christmas posts (unless you count me teasing Patter and others for being almost done with shopping), but if you scroll past the political ones and don't open them you'll never see what's in there.
Just. Don't. Read.

?? Why would I bother lying about something so unimportant? And just because her acc is closed doesn't mean she isn't reading. My point was, you just HAD to get your last dig in...in hopes that she's reading. You're awesome. @gajenny , with all respect, I think you may be just a little too sensitive and overreacting here. As someone who quiet deleted her first account here and yes, continued to read for months afterward before rejoining, I can understand why gar wonders why people feel the need to announce their leaving sometimes. I didn't take her post as a dig, but YMMV. Having said that, wildcatmom, if you're reading, I also get where you're coming from. Sometimes we need to force ourselves to not have access to the post button.

Wildcatmom, I am so sorry. I am about at that point myself for the exact same reasons.
I was not active on the other board, but I decided to try to be active here. I am thinking it was a mistake now. The political threads are what I enjoy and I just don't think there is a tolerance for the right anymore.

The political threads are what I enjoy and I just don't think there is a tolerance for the right anymore. I've been here since the beginning. While this is obviously the worst it's been, trust me, there was never a tolerance for the right here. We did have more conservative voices that helped balance it a little bit over time they been run off - like now. And then the liberals find themselves surrounded with mostly like minded people and then get a big surprise on Election Day when they find out half the country thinks the other way. But they were too busy shutting down those voices around them to notice.

Wildcat mom was the first person to attack me over politics. Because I didn't like Ann Coulter. And so very sweetly suggested that I leave the country if I didn't understand/appreciate the first amendment.
Dish it but can't take it.
Republicans chose to put a sexual predator (among other things) in the White House. People are allowed to say what the fuck and draw conclusions from that choice.

(and keep in mind...up until days before the election, I had planned to not vote because I couldn't support EITHER candidate. I didn't decide until the night before that I was going to vote)

God I wish the old board's archives were still up so we could take a walk down memory lane after Obama's first victory.
It's an effing miracle the earth didn't implode in the past 8 years, given the histrionics and doomsday attitude of the conservatives on the board.
Now it's our turn. We're just as upset and pissed off as you were then.
And if you think you (general conservative you) were sweetness and light and respectful and giving lip service to unity, you have a very selective memory.

I just don't think there is a tolerance for the right anymore. I don't see it that way. I have tolerance for the right. Here's how it boils down (to me, not to everyone): The right sees life as "pull yourself up by your bootstraps". The left sees life as "some people don't even have F#($#$ing Boots!". The right thinks all have the same capability to succeed, but are just lazy. The left thinks that some people top out at a 3rd grade academic and/or emotional level - mostly through shit that happened to them while they were still in utero, sometimes because of their shit upbringing (from parents w/the same issues back through generations). I have tolerance (though not agreement) w/the right's point of view. I think it's wrong, but I have tolerance. I DO NOT HAVE TOLERANCE for making fun of the disabled, saying that most of the immigrants who come here come to rape, saying that a child of immigrants can't be an objective judge and follow the law, calling women fat pigs or otherwise insulting their lives based on their looks, etc. etc., etc.

Why not just leave, why the need to announce it? In other words, "Don't let the door hit ya..." Because maybe she hoped people would give one last thought to how they're coming across. Because maybe she hoped that if they did, things might become more friendly for others who choose to stay in what they feel has become a hostile environment. Maybe it was just her way of expressing sadness at the end of what has been a long-time Pea association. She was a long-time Pea who was never overtly nasty or controversial (that I recall.) But I guess the new normal is that if someone even gives the appearance of having voted for Trump, we don't have to be nice to them because they've ruined the world. SaveOh for goodness sake, you're way overthinking this as far as my off the cuff remarks goes. That was not my thought process at all.

Well the thing is, Trump doesn't really *have* any policies, not real ones. Just "make America great again" and he'll get ISIS because he knows more than the generals do. So there aren't any policies for us to go after. We are attacking his personal choices -- the choices to molest women, to abuse his power, to insult just about everyone except straight white men. So yes, personal attacks it is.

And I don't understand how you could vote for someone who plays so fast and loose with our national security. Both candidates were majorly flawed...but you're so focused on Trump's flaws that you're completely unable to understand that as strongly as you felt about Trump's flaws, nearly the same amount of American voters felt the same about Clinton and her flaws. But I've said this about 100 times. I could say it 1,000 more times and people on the left would still be so shocked that anyone could dare vote for Trump. "Playing fast and lose with our national security" is an opinion, an interpretation of the events that occurred. The racist and misogynistic things Trump said defy interpreting them in a different manner. Is it not racist to make the statement "They're rapists..." in reference to Mexicans? Is it not misogynistic to say "Grab 'em by the pussy?" This is why I personally find a vote for Trump to be indefensible. Whether a Trump voter agrees with those sentiments or not, they cast their vote for the racism, sexism, and xenophobia along with all the other reasons they voted for him. I can understand that how a Trump voter would value the other things, but I cannot understand how they were okay with the "deplorable" stuff. Ok, so they feel very strongly that Clinton was not an acceptable choice either. Nobody was forcing them to vote for her...there were other options, including organizing and finding an acceptable candidate. But they didn't do any of those things, and now want to be upset when the actual majority of the country is terrified of the demagogue they've saddle us with.

This also cannot be repeated enough. There has been PLENTY of bad behavior and personal attacks by conservatives. It really is too damn bad that the pea archives aren't available. Still, there's enough proof right here in old threads. BOTH sides are guilty of this. We can spend the rest of our lives going back and forth over that, or we can ALL go high and do our best to move forward. If people need to hairflip and stomp out of the sandbox, so be it. While I think wildcatmom was far better than some on this board, she was (like just about every one of us) guilty of bad behavior at times. I saw her get very vitriolic on 2peas. It happened less here, and I did appreciate that. But if she's going to hairflip, so be it. Bickering over her attempt at a dramatic exit isn't going to fix or change anything. Save

Trump's policies are starting to be formed, but they aren't lining up with his campaign promises. Repealing Obamacare was a huge promise. I don't remember if it made the first 100 days contract with America, but it was a constant throughout the election cycle. And now he's met with Pres. Obama and saying he might fix it instead of remove it.
Another campaign theme was that we need to drain the swamp and the elites need to be kicked out. Big money and lobbyists shouldn't be governing us. Only he's got lobbyists advising him now.
I've been a lurker for years and years and years. I've seen the ebb and flow of this board. I've walked away and come back to read more (and now I'm participating). My heart hurts for people that are subject to vicious personal attacks. I'll say to that exactly what I told my 7 year olds when I sent them to school on Wednesday morning: If you see bullying, it is your job to say something. If you see any of your brown classmates being told that they are going to get kicked out of America and they don't belong here, YOU go over there and say THAT IS NOT TRUE.
We are so much more willing to use our words as weapons when we are sitting behind a keyboard.

What do you suppose conservative people do when their children turn out to be children and not impossibly perfect beings? Discard them? 'Cause I'm pretty sure that I saw a conservative family just the other day who somehow managed to fight their instincts and hold on to their imperfect children and raise them with love and respect. Gasp. If only I had taken a picture of them for proof that they do exist.

I will agree that I think some liberal peas have hit below the belt at times, but I also think some conservative peas have put out their share of blanket insults as well. Too bad we can't just all agree to let YMMV on everything, right?

The right will take care of their children w/disabilities and disease.. That's part of their "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality. The bootstraps in their mind includes the person's family and church. But the left knows that not everyone has a loving or supportive family to fall back on. And the left believes that you shouldn't have to go begging to a particular ideology for care. They believe that those w/o resources (personal or familial) should get help through the rest of us. The right say "go to a church". As if chemotheraphy is available at the closest 1st Baptist. The left say "we're in this together, those w/the most will help those w/the least."
