Today, I set up a $5 monthly recurring donation to Planned Parenthood. I am going to give thought over the next few months as to how I want to organize my household budget to give more to organizations and causes that I want to support, but. $5 monthly donation was one that didn't require budgeting for me--I get coffee twice a week on the way in to work, and I am going to make a second pot at home those mornings and bring my thermos instead.
What small thing can you do this weekend -- for a person, for a cause, for something else -- that will help as we move forward?

I think that's awesome, but maybe you could just include everyone and challenge everyone to do some small thing to make this world better.
I'm also planning to choose a small group of worthy causes and setting up recurring donations. Planned Parenthood is one of these. So is my local animal shelter.
We - Republican and Democrat alike- should do what we can to improve this world we share.

Totally supportive of that. My goal here specifically, however, is to reach out to other posters who want to contain the problems we see with a Trump presidency and encourage us to take specific, concrete steps to do so.

My husband and I decided to donate to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and the SPLC in lieu of gifts to each other this Christmas.

We set up a recurring donation to Immigration Counseling Service, a non-profit Immigration law firm in Oregon.
We increased our ACLU recurring donation.
We're evaluating a few other donation options. PSA: Don't forget to get the matching gifts from your employer, if they do that!
Invited our Somali neighbors over for dinner. They are very nervous and scared that things are going to change for them around here. We want to make sure they know nothing changes for us.

I am super impressed by your action and extended offers of help! Thank you for working towards change. I know that not only will your actual efforts make a difference to someone who needs them, I think you'll also inspire others to actually DO.

I set up monthly payments with my state's Democratic Party and with Emily's List and made a donation to Planned Parenthood. I plan on making one to the SPLC.
Today, I sent emails and tweets to Amazon, Macy's, Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Nordstrom, letting them know that I will no longer shop their stores until they drop Trump family products. I will also close my Macy's store account. With the holiday season approaching, I encourage anyone who feels similarly to do the same. #grabyourwallet
I also signed the change.org petition regarding the Electoral College. I have no illusions of it actually happening but as least I made my voice heard.

Just a very tiny thing. On social media a relative posted about using civil disobedience to call attention to what has just occurred. I posted that America will be choosing a new Supreme Court justice after January. I suggested that instead of protesting, that time and energy would be better spent researching the SC nominee (without media sound bites)contacting our US Senators, expressing an opinion about the nomine, and holding them accountable to their constituents. I included links to our Senators websites. I have never been political and thinking back, I honestly can't recall the last time "my" candidate won. This time, I reasearched my candidate, watched all the debates, voted early and hung on every news story. Again, "my" candidate didn't win but I want to channel my disappointment into positive energy so that, for me, something good can still happen.

I haven't done anything yet..but my 90 yr old dad told me he changed his will last week to exclude the church he had been going to...they are leaving the presbyterian usa denomination and going more fundamentalist (no gay ministers, marriage, etc).. my dad will have no church for his winter home.. says he going to just stay home and read the bible. my dad is big supporter of lgbtq rights.

I've got to say today so far, I consider it a high accomplishment to turn the other cheek. I was called Libtarded by a relative and after careful consideration and a few days, I made what I considered to be a very calm, collected and kind post addressing my concerns. Someone really went after me and I prayed hard and thought I responded well, but I'm still shaken.
Tonight I will go volunteer at my local theater where I'll likely usher or work Will Call for the Upright Citizens Brigade comedy show. I really need the laughter. I hope it's good medicine for everyone in the crowd.

I would like to put in a plug in for subscribing to one or more newspapers. Now more than ever, we need high quality investigative journalism and it's expensive. Many of us have gotten used to getting our news for free and no longer subscribe to papers. But with Trump's vocal disdain for the media, it's easy to imagine his administration attempting to erode some 1st Amendment rights. Our papers need resources to continue to do their important work and to protect themselves from potential governmental overreach.
I have digital subscriptions to both the NYT and Washington Post.

These are some great ideas and I thank y'all for sharing them. I need to start on a list for myself. I live in a very red part of a very red state so I'm not sure what I can do locally, but I will look around. In the meantime, I did sign the change.org petition and will join the ACLU. I am interested in gay rights the most as that will affect several members of my immediate family. My sister married her long-time partner recently. They have been together almost 40 years. It broke my heart to hear her tell my nephew and his partner that they better get married while they still can. 😢
Thanks for starting this thread.

I didn't vote for Trump. I will set up a 10 dollar a month donation to a pro life organization if I can find one localish to me. I prefer to keep my charity local.

My husband and I decided to donate to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and the SPLC in lieu of gifts to each other this Christmas. DS and I face-timed this morning, and he mentioned this. I think we're going to do this as well. I am also about to formally join FFRF. Hoping there's a local office, but it's improbable given my location. I'll probably be doing the research on that tomorrow as it's getting late and I've spent too much time online today already. I'm so glad we're all talking and posting about our on-the-ground efforts. It inspires me to do more:love:

I read that Macy's did drop them. 😃 😃😃 I checked Shannon's list (she started #grabyourwallet and is closely tracking and communicating with the stores) and so far Macy's is still on the list. Would appreciate any links that show otherwise. ETA: They are still planning on selling Ivanka's lines. Shannon has them on her list because Ivanka acted as a surrogate for her father and actively promoted her businesses while campaigning for her father. Personally I consider this a validation of her father's ideas and will not be supporting Macy's unless they drop her.

Great ideas, ladies!
I also encourage the national newspaper subscription. Good reporting challenges us to think and gives us better info for decisions. Also, diverse opinions challenge us to choose wisely.

Yesterday I inquired about being a mentor for refugees. We have a large refugee population here, although who knows if any more will be coming any time soon. If that isn't an option, I will look for other volunteer opportunities.
