My dd is 11. She is on the small size - 55" and 70 [HASH]. She is going into sixth grade. She is still my little girl but is wanting things a bit more mature than what she has worn in the past- Children's Place, Crazy 8, and Old Navy mostly. When we were on vacation we perused Justice and she didn't see much she liked there; she did find a few basics at Gap. What stores does your girl like? I have to shop online because we don't have anything around here.

She is the exact same size as my 12 y o DD who is also going into sixth grade ( she did a primer grade after kindergarten)! She's in the 3rd percentile for her age so yes we have this problem too. We shop at Justice still for jeans, shorts and bathing suits and sometimes tops. We discovered she can wear a XXS at Aeropostle in their t-shirts and their stuff is pricey but they almost always have something on sale that she can wear that's not too grown up. We also like Delilah's for tops and dresses- she almost big enough for their skinny jeans! Delilah's runs lots of sales too. I also have had good luck with Zulilly online- the only downside is that you can't return their stuff but we've always been lucky with sizes wth them. Target's junior sizes run really small too and we've found some cute things there. Good luck and happy school year!

My girls are a little bit younger (they'll be 10 in a couple of months) but we find stuff at Justice, Target, Aero, American Eagle, Hollister (XXS usually fit for the Aero, AE & Holl). I do not care for the shirts that are completely covered in glitter and bling and thankfully my girls don't really care too much for that either. But we've been able thus far to find stuff at Justice for a decent price off the clearance racks. I was just there last weekend and got 3 pairs of jeans for less than $9 each. SUPER cute too.

My 11 year old is quite a bit taller and heavier than yours but we still shop primarily at Old Navy ... This is just such a hard age because you don't want stuff too revealing but they don't want it to be to "little kid like" ... We have a label here in Canada called Joe that is really cost conscious and cute and another store called Triple Flip that is more expensive (like Lululemon for girls) that sells some really nice stuff ... I'll be glad to be out of this phase

My daughter likes Justice, PS from Aeropostale, Aeropostale (she is very thin so a lot of the clothing is too big on her but she'll get a shirt there and tie a loop in the end so it kind of fits her)... and since a lot of the kids seem to be getting into it, she has also been asking for clothes from Abercrombie. I really don't want to start buying stuff from there because it is expensive and I don't necessarily like the messages the company sends, but I did find a few sweatshirts/hoodies from them on our town's Facebook tag sale website for $5, so I got those for her. I'll be watching this thread! I am always looking for new ideas. I find it harder and harder to find clothes for her as she gets older and she complains about certain stores being too babyish or not her style anymore.

I just took my dd clothes shopping last week and it was a challenge. We ended up buying jeans at JC Penney and the rest of her clothes at Kohl's.

By the time my DD was in middle school, none of the girls were wearing Justice. You may want to hold off buying any of that until your DD sees what the other kids are wearing.
My DD was tiny until she hit the summer between 7th and 8th grade. (She was 12.). By 5th grade, she didn't want to wear "baby" clothes. She wore a lot of Delia's that year. The jeans are great. They come in 00 and 3 lengths, with several fits depending on your DD's shape. The dresses and skirts were also good, as they are on the short side, but so was she. The jeans and skirts wore fine, but I found the tops to be flimsy. They pilled and were thin and just didn't wash well. So consider those to be a one season item. I had better luck when we found The Loft. They have 00 petite and the quality is better. DD wore some Hollister at that age, too. But I find some of their stuff to be skimpy, so try it on first. Aero fit well enough, but the brand is visible on everything and that just wasn't in style at DD's school. Honestly, she didn't have a ton to choose from for a few years because things that fit her were limited and I kept thinking she would grow any day.

At that age, DD14 was barely into Jrs sizes, only some stores went small enough. She usually got jeans at Justice, and tops and things like sweats at Aeropostale and sometimes Hollister. We found a few things at Rue 21 and a local store called Factory Connection - I think its only a chain in our area though. Some stores, like Forever 21, she is still too thin for pants/bottoms, she's almost 5'4" and weighs about 103 lbs. She's had a lot of luck at Kohl's and JC Penny the past 2 years. Bras were a chore until this year, to get a small enough band with a large enough cup we had to order. I don't know where she got her bangin' figure from, but it definitely skipped my generation.

Thanks for all these ideas! I found some stuff on old navy and gap online tonight that she liked. But it will be fun to look at some new store ideas too. I am actually just starting to look for fall. I don't buy a lot of clothes right before school starts because it's still so warm and they just wear summer clothes for a month or so. Then, I'll see what still fits and works and go from there.

I won't buy things from Abercrombie either because of their advertising (,it really is soft porn and send a terrible message-I also hate their practice of only out tong the most attractive sales associates on the floor while those who are less attractive are folding clothes in the back- on of my boys has a darling friend who is cute not beautiful and she rarely works the floor ). I also think their clothes are incredibly overpriced. I haven't tried Forever 21 yet but DD IS VERY interested in checking them out!

We ended up ordering bras from Australia thru eBay to fit my 26D 12 yr old. Yes I said D cup!
