existed? I was at my sister's yesterday and her toilet seats all are slow-close ones. I'm sure it's been around forever but I didn't know about it. I put it on my list of things to get this month, I hate the slamming of the top down on toilet.
Anyone else find any cool thing?

The slow close lids are great and we have them, but the problem is when your kids are used to them and go to a hotel their grandparents house, you inevitably hear a BANG! after someone goes to the restroom...

I do this everywhere... It's so embarrassing to be a guest somewhere and being all worried about what towel to use and then BANG!!! Ugh...lol

I had never seen one and never knew anyone that had one. We bought a new toilet this past month and it has a slow closing seat. It is kind of fun to watch. Of course the toilet in currently in the living room. I am sure once it has been installed the novelty will wear off. LoL

In the 1600's: Precious urine collected from chamber pots, its many uses included stain removal and pre-wash soaking. It also removed natural oils from wool, and set dyes, not to mention its many uses in medicine. Before that you suffer it to be washed, lay it all night in urine, the next day rub all the spots in the urine as if you were washing in water; then lay it in more urine another night and then rub it again, and so do till you find they be quite out. Hannah Woolley, The Compleat Servant-Maid, 1677 www.oldandinteresting.com/washing-with-lye.aspxI cannot even imagine!!!

I installed one of these several months ago and it is so nice to not here that slamming lid. Whoever invented it deserves a huge high five. I learned recently that my 78yo dad flew airplanes when he was in high school for the jr national guard. The stories he was sharing were incredible. How could i not have known this. My dad was career Coast Guard, he did ships, ice breakers, not airplanes. I thought it was pretty cool to learn.

This is kinda' related - I didn't know until I've been camera shopping recently that it's very hard to find a P&S with a viewfinder anymore. That totally surprised me. I really like having one and don't understand why most cameras wouldn't even give that option anymore? Weird. I mostly take outdoor and sports photos. With the glare on the screen, it's really hard to see the photo I'm taking. I did find a camera with a viewfinder and I'm absolutely in LOVE with it!

I HATE that most of them don't have view finder anymore. It is next to impossible to take a photo in bright sunlight by using just the screen. I searched high and low last year to find a waterproof camera with a viewfinder but there were none. Just out of interest, what brand camera did you end up buying?

I ended up returning a Panasonic Lumix to Costco just for that problem. It had a nice big screen but there was so much glare, I could never see the photo I was taking. I ended up with a Nikon Coolpix P100 - viewfinder included, whoo hoo! I had to order it online. Of all the B&M stores where I looked - not one camera with a viewfinder. Photo was too big to copy/paste but HERE is the P100 on Amazon.

In a similar vein, daycare has automatically flushing toilets....and now my kids seem to have forgotten how to do it manually. It took me a while to figure out why they both kept forgetting to flush after we moved here 2 years ago.

I found out that I have a secret compartment in my car under one of the rear passenger seats to hide objects from view. My car was in for service this morning and the mechanic just happened to mention it when I picked it up - I've only had the car two years!!

I didn't learn about anything new that exists, but I did learn something new. I've always known my sister's boyfriend by one name, but just this week I learned that it was a nickname and his real name is Grover. They have been together for years and no one ever mentioned this. I only found this out because he had a mild stroke and when I visited him in the hospital the nurses used his real name.

I found Youtube has the Gabaldon audio books and started listening last night. Davina Porter? is the narrator. I'm really enjoying it!
