Curious. My oldest is turning 16 tomorrow. She will be getting her driver's license (if she passes the driving test and I am not worried about it). She WILL NOT be getting a car as it is not financially possible for us right now AND she is the oldest of 4 and we don't want to set that precedent. She will be allowed to drive our cars when she needs to, but not to school as they don't give parking permits to sophomores. For her gift, we are giving her a set of keys to both of our cars (my husband's and mine) and a nice wallet/keychain thing from Vera Bradley.
Any other ideas? I am kind of stuck. She isn't having a party.

Google origami or paper folding money and present in a mug as a gift. Google M m money in a jar. put coins or dollars in a small jar then put inside a bigger jar. fill the bigger jar with m@ m's and attach a label. Do an image search for umbrella cash and shower her with money. Attach cash by strings inside of an umbrella.

I would get a special piece of jewelry...something she'll be able to keep forever, maybe something with her birthstone.

Sweet 16- 16 pieces of fun candy. That was one of the most fun gifts dd received. They found some vintage-y candy along with some modern favorites, things like a candy necklace, ring pop, rock candy, etc.
Another gift that she cherished and one that we ended up giving to others was a charm necklace from Brighton. They have a Sweet 16 charm. Dd was given that charm and a second one that she could wear long after she was 16. That ended up becoming her standard gift for Sweet 16s and some other birthdays- necklace, birthday or sweet 16 charm and another charm with some meaning.

With her birthday being tomorrow, I will suggest:
Give 16 of something: Candy, lipgloss, nailpolishes, books, etc.
Buy her as box subscription. There are hundreds. Makeup, Japanese food, "geek", gaming, jewelry, etc.
Give her 16 pieces of foldable money, be it ones, fives, or tens, etc.
My dd just turned 16 and I made it a point to give her two cards that both had "Sweet Sixteen" on the front. I took a pic of her holding the cards.
Take 16 photos of her on her day. Maybe 16 different poses?
A cake with "Sweet Sixteen" written on it. Or a "16" candle. Or 16 cupcakes.
Or cupcakes placed to form the number "16"

Thought of more:
Flower bouquet with 16 flowers (roses, carnations, daisies, etc)
16 balloons

Can you tell us what she likes? Maybe we could come up with good ideas that way?
Also, more ideas:
Write lists of 16 about her. Reasons she's special. Reasons you love her. Reasons she's great, etc.
Give her 16 passes or coupons. They could be anything, from picking a movie to buy on demand, or red box, or picking the restaurant to order from on take-out night.

Gift cards to local restaurants. That is where the high school kids hang out around here.

My DD turned 16 earlier this month. She also is a sophomore and isn't getting a car at this time.
We got her a few things she wanted - a ring from James Avery, a necklace from Kendra Scott (you get 50% off an item during your bday month too!), and a make up pallet that is a little pricey that she really wanted.
She also had a pretty good sized joint "Sweet 16" party this past weekend with her BFF (whose bday is today). They both REALLY wanted the party rather than more gifts. We had 60+ teenagers Saturday night. But it went well and they all had a great time.
Someone suggested a class ring - here you can't get on until you are a Junior.
Maybe ask her if there is something special she wants?
