I've got big bins full of art projects and papers for each of my 4 kids. I'm at the point now where I want to simplify and consolidate all this stuff into a nice, compact and cohesive memory book for each of them, and be done with the piles. One idea I had was to scan and/or photograph everything and then print as a photo book. But some of those sweet early drawings don't translate so well to photos, so it would be nice to keep the actual item in some cases. And even when the massive poster is not something I want to keep, I can envision keeping a chunk of it with the kiddo's signature at that age, together with the photo of the poster. I can see myself mixing in some photos, some journaling, assorted ephemera, scanned and reduced artworks, maybe some awards and report cards.
So-- with my vague ideas in mind-- does PL sound like it would be a good choice for my needs? I'm not into kits or a lot of pre-printed stuff, but I would welcome structure and ease of assembly. I'm one of the many who has a lot of scrapping stuff, but has lost the will to scrap in the olden ways.
If you've done something like this (or used a totally different way to deal with the kid art and paper issue) -- I'd love to see what you've done or glean ideas. Thanks in advance.

I am starting to get my kid's school stuff organized to make a PL album. Becky Higgins has a video she made about this topic. It gave me the push I needed to get started. I'm dedicating some time every week once the kids go back to school to get these albums done! I have a hard time letting go of some of their larger projects so I'm not sure how I will handle those. Taking a picture and throwing them out scares me that I'll wish I had the original. Anyway, here's the link... www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvFjiDcbpXgGood luck!!

Thanks for the link. I think it helps that my kids are older now (my oldest will be 20 next month). 2 off to college, and the other 2 in HS, so the feeling that I need to keep originals of everything is long gone for me. None of my boys seems to care about any of it right now, but I think someday they may enjoy having a few "memory" items. I like the idea of a very flexible system, so if I find stray bits and pieces I can add things later. That takes some of the pressure off of feeling I have to have all my raw materials in hand and all in chrono order before I can start.

My sister and I are 30... My parents have a big shed in the backyard that I know has a lot of schoolwork and art work in it. I think when they go through it and start purging, I'll suggest saving their favorite bits to put in a Project Life album so they don't feel like they're throwing away any memories. (My dad is a lot more sentimental than you'd expect!)

This was great timing. I came home yesterday and my mom had discovered a whole stash of baby stuff she had saved form my sister and I when we were born. Tons of congratulation cards, the newspaper announcement, and a bunch of just random ephemera. She was a bit overwhelmed because she didn't know why she had saved everything, but the first words out of my mouth were "Let's Project Life this!"
