Is there any way possible to get cooked on crud off the glass cooktop? It got cooked on over and over and over again. I've started to use a glass scraper, but it scrapes the rings right off, so one won't know where to put the pot anymore. I've tried the commercial glass cooktop cleaners. I've tried the baking soda and hot wet towels for 30 minutes method, but nothing gets it all off? Am I out of luck? Or does anybody have the secret? Thanks!!! I've discovered that the secret to the class cooktop cleaners is to let it dry. I smear it around and cover the surface so there is a thin layer covering everything. Then I walk away and let it dry. Then I come back with one of those blue sponges with the blue scrubby side that doesn't scratch and get it barely damp (NOT wet) and start scrubbing with lots of elbow grease. When the cleaner dries, it get more abrasive, but doesn't scratch the surface. I've had great luck with this technique.

I make a paste out of baking soda and dr bronners soap and let that sit for a while. Then a regular dish cloth to scrub. It is a bit of an ass pain to wipe up all the soap/baking sofa mixture off afterwards, but it seems to get most of the cooked on crud off easily.

Thanks, ladies! Not sure if I can get that soap here, but I'll try letting the cleaners dry.

one counter and shelf cleared off completely, bleached and bleached again. All the items on it have been thoroughly washed. Next up - emptying and bleaching the cabinet above - there doesn't appear to be any bugs up there but it needs cleaning out and I'm feeling motivated to do so today.....

Speaking of burnt on/cooked on food..has anyone tried those Scrub Daddy sponges they sell on QVC a lot? Do they really work any better than a regular scrubby sponge?

wall cabinet emptied, hoovered (wow there was a ton of cat fur up there -bad kitty!), bleached, and re-filled...tossed a bag-ful of 'stuff' (it's the junk cabinet), added a tea thingy (that I was gifted last Thanksgiving and have never used) to the donation pile, moved two containers of seashells into DH's den (not sure why they were in there), set aside two light fixture globes to hopefully donate (waiting on the okay from DH). Oh and the water hookup hose from a fridge we no longer own...that's leaving too.
lower cabinet emptied - added an 8x8 pan to donation (I can't think why I need two). Taking a short break and then I'll hoover and bleach it.
The kitchen really needs a deep clean but I was hoping to wait until NEXT week when the girls are home to help me and I'll be one more week along in my surgery recovery - I'm off crutches around the house now but need to sit down frequently and rest my knee.

I would like to know what the fellow peas use to clean the tile counter tops! The grout, in some areas, is gross. I tries the toilet bowl cleaner method, the Tide/Chlorox Gel Pen cleaning method, 409, etc. I am afraid to use a pumice stone but that may be the only option. The grout may need to be resealed...I have no idea. But in a few spots the grime wont clean off! I am convinced that grout was invented by some man who hated his wife and sold it to torture all women, everywhere. I despise grout with every fiber of my being.

I've just re-organised my dry goods and cereals cupboards and I'm sure I threw out more than was actually in there. I'm pretty good at rotating cans but I seem to have forgotten about doing these cupboards. Now, most things are stored in plastic containers and it has made a big difference. I need to actually start using the stuff instead of buying more every time I see a recipe I want to try. I am toying with keeping a ledger of what's there but if I can't be organised enough in the first place, what hope do I have of maintaining one?

Then I think that if I start off organised at least I'll have the right mental attitude. On balance I'll probably start one just so I can feel good about it for a while! I'll see if there are any apps that would help.

gillyp - one nice thing about at least starting with a list is that it makes it easier to menu plan...at least for a week or two until the list gets outdated when I'm DONE deep cleaning the kitchen (so NOT today), I need to deepclean the utility room where my tinned and dry goods and freezer are...I'll make a list and hopefully we can eat from the pantry/freezer for a week or two...

My house is currently an absolute tip so this is going to be a long hard process for me . I cleaned and sorted my youngest son's old bedroom yesterday ( he's moved into a boiler room now his brother has moved out . ) Currently working on my office as it is also the entrance to the house and can be seen from the open door .

I'm done with my yard work for the day. I weeded and. Raked out the hosta garden in the backyard, uprooted a dozen or more saplings that were never invited to grow there, and took the deck furniture down to the garage.
Now I'm off to shower up and then start my kitchen stuff. I just need to get my dishes under control and start supper.

My laundry is caught up! Everything is put away! The 5 baskets of clean clothes in the dining room are gone. You can now walk in here again! The big pile in the bathroom is gone. I have too many clothes.

I feel like a broken record here but... I use the Magic Eraser to get the cooked on stuff off the glasstop. Works like charm. I should get a lifetime supply! Yvonne, I bought the Scrub Daddy sponges a couple weeks ago after the recommendation of a food blogger I like. I don't think they clean any better than anything else but they do stay clean and un-smelly. Kind of "meh" about them overall though.

I ran a bunch of copies of it and left it in the pantry. I left a highlighter by the list. Whenever I took something out of the pantry, I highlighted the item. When the day came to grocery shop (my husband does that), he highlighted anything else he knew we needed and I added to it if I was making something special. It was much better than having to sit and try to remember what we needed.

I only got half of the kitchen clean but wow - it's REALLY clean. Cleaned the cookbook bookcase - took everything off, wiped it down with bleach, pulled it out and hoovered underneath. Emptied and bleached, purged and tidied one wall of cabinets (goodbye bugs). Cleaned and bleached my microwave and my fridge (pulled it out and cleaned behind and underneath and inside and out), cleaned and purged the shelf above the fridge. Cleaned off my bulletin board.
Two bags of trash - GONE
I have another box for donations
Installed the new phone (landline) - the phone jack is behind the fridge so while it was out...
Did 4 loads of laundry also.
[plus I went to Physical Therapy and we bought a new-to-us car - busy day]

She has a master grocery list, organized by grocery aisle, that she highlights items as they are used. There are blank spaces for each aisle for added items. It's a little intimidating to me-the person who, if I even remember to make a list, usually scratches out stuff on whatever slip of paper I can find and often uses abbreviations that I can't decipher when I get there. lol

We typically have a really clean house but lately I feel really overwhelmed. I do this yearly around the holidays. There isn't a crevice I wouldn't like to clean. Typically I start in the master closet and work outward; however I'm thinking I'll start with toys since Christmas is coming up and more will be coming in. Give me weekend motivation!

I had four boxes of old papers and pictures, playbills and receipts in the storage room. I went through all four, threw away half, and sorted what was left into two plastic totes to slide under the bed--one for photos and one for papers.

Ugh. I'm not happy about how early I woke today. DD is out sick today, and I called her in last night, so I didn't actually have to get up this early. I'm thinking I'll work on my attic some more and try to deal with the general clutter without getting sidetracked by all my craft stuff.
Then, when it warms up, I'll head out and do some more raking.
What are your plans for the day?
