I've been considering participating in this drive since it was announced. I really struggle with card design AND sentiments for the inside, which is why I tend to buy cards, even with a room full of stuff. However, I just received an email update and they've received less than 20% of what they received last year and it's really giving me the desire to participate. Here is the link if anyone else would like to join: scrapbooking-for-less.com/pages/cards-for-troopsCards need to be postmarked by this Saturday (November 19th). I've asked if it's okay to make multiples of the same card (because one design is really the best I can do since I really do struggle with them) and am waiting to hear back but from you all, I'd love some ideas on what to write on the inside since they also want handwritten notes to soldiers included. As I said, cards are really not my thing, so I need all the help I can get.

Obviously, as I'm not American, this isn't a project I'll participate in... Plus, I'm a terrible cardmaker. But I thought that a funnier and perhaps a bit different Christmas card that could be made if you have some supplies that figure the traditional soldier nutcracker could include a simple line that reads "Here's one to crack them all up" with a Christmas joke written underneath it. It doesn't always have to be a typical sentiment on the inside. As long as you wish them a Merry Christmas and thank them for services, I think you can use this opportunity to make them smile/lighten their mood and the atmosphere. Have fun making them and share some of your creations if you have time to snap a few pics before they're in the mail!

Here is what I came up with. Dasher is one of my favorite stamps ever and I've NEVER used him before. I had to unmount him from the block and put him on cling foam (thank goodness I had some) because even using my stampamajig, he just wouldn't fill in all the way. I was able to emboss 12 panels of the red from 2 sheets of cardstock. The plan is to make 12 cards to send in (my initial goal was 10, but since I could get 12, I might as well go for it). http://instagram.com/p/BM4xCIKDCsj

I finished my 12 cards. I haven't thought of anything clever to put inside, so I'm going to stick with the basic: Thank you for your service. Merry Christmas. Only, I am going to have my 6 year old help me after school tomorrow...so even if it's simple, because it's coming from a child, hopefully it will mean a little bit more. I may encourage him to draw a bit inside as well. Just in case there are any mistakes, I'm going to cut down panels for him to write on and then glue them inside of the card. leeny - I am glad that you have a source. I only know about it because I signed up for their newsletter during a sale a few months ago. It's something I've considered doing for years, but I struggle with cards (this idea was spawned by Pinterest...a card on there reminded me I had this embossing folder and I already knew I wanted to use Dasher) so I never really committed. Knowing that they had such a low turnout versus prior years made me really want to contribute something, even if it isn't a masterpiece. I am also including it as my daily thankful in my 30 days of thankful album. I am thankful for the opportunity to help brighten someone's day...I can't always do as much as I'd like to do, but it probably gives me more joy than the recipient when I can. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

scrapaddict702, that card is gorgeous! Love the black stamped image with the red and white. And I think your idea to have your child help with the sentiment will mean a lot to the recipient and will be a wonderful shared experience between you.

Your card are fantastic! We are a retired military family and having your child help is spot on. That kind of thing always goes over well. You also could say something to the effect of happy holidays, thank you for your service from twon we live in, state located.
I have 2 suggestions. Ask the peaboard for suggestions on what to write inside your card. Heck, even the NSBR borad would help. There are writers on this board that love this kind of thing. Use us as your resource!
An additional bonus, if your child is into drawing and wants to add to the project. Have him/her draw 12 of tha same pictures And say "we are encluding an original work of art by childs first name, age 6. Maybe your house or santa or a christmas tree. And i am serious, kid stuff is appreciated, reapected and taken seriously.
I want to stress again, your card is fantastic. Better than professional. I love it.
