My first official date was my Freshman year of High School. I was 15 and so was my date. We doubled with another couple both of whom were older and could drive. I think we went out to eat and then to see a movie. That was a short-lived romance.

Yes. We met in Karate class. His name is Brian. We went to see Hanky Panky at the mall movie theatre. If you google his name, Brian Hochgraber, it leads you to a post on the other pea board from 2007 where we discussed this.

I'm pretty sure his name was Keith. This happened in summer of 1982. We were both in junior high but went to different schools. We'd met at the public pool on our side of town and arranged to meet up at the amusement park for a date one Saturday. We both got dropped off by our parents in the morning and met up at the gate. We spent the day being awkward tweens; holding hands, riding rides, playing games, and eating junk food. But he wasn't willing to ride any the "big" rides (rollercoasters, things that went upside down, things that went really fast, etc...) and those were my favorites. I was disappointed but sucked it up and enjoyed the rides he was willing to ride and had a good time anyway. When it got dark he bought me a glow necklace and we watched a speedboat thrill show with a flaming hoop and fake explosions that took place on the artificial lake in the middle of the park. His parents were picking him up at 10, but I got to stay until midnight. So when the show was over, I walked him to the gate, got a really bad goodnight kiss, and said that my parents wouldn't let me give out my phone number (blatant lie) but that I would see him at the pool. Then I hauled ass as fast as I could to my favorite rollercoaster and was able to ride it a couple of times before it was time for me to leave. He was sweet and made for a nice first date. But the refusal to ride any of the big rides was a solid dealbreaker for me and I never went out with him again. We did hang out together at the pool a few times during the remainder of that summer though. But I never saw him again after that, he probably moved or stopped going to the pool.

My first date was going to the homecoming dance with my very first boyfriend Chris. I wore a dress that I borrowed from Aunt Polly. (Mom is the oldest of 7 and Aunt Polly is the youngest...so we're not that far apart in age.) It was a black cocktail dress that Aunt Polly wore to a New Year's Eve party at a hotel where she passed out in the bathtub and puked all over her dress. I was dry cleaned before I wore it though.

I was 15. He was a year or two older so he could drive. He had to ask my dad's permission to take me out. We went to the movies and saw ET. That was our only date. But, we just reconnected on Facebook. It has been 30 years since that date. It has been fun catching up. We are both happily married with young children. Just fun to see what happened to each other. He was and still is a very nice guy.

I didn't date much because I was very shy and scared to death of boys! I think they knew it so I never got asked! My first real date was a blind date - doubled with the girl who set me up and her boyfriend. It was awful! He was older than me, and we went to a bar (maybe a disco - this was around 1978). I wasn't old enough to drink, but he was, and I think he had started before they even picked me up. He didn't come to the door to get me like he was supposed to, and my parents never would have let me go if they knew the situation. So after sitting at the bar for a while (he refused to dance), we left and just drove around. He wanted to go to another bar, but I said he could just take me home. He tried to kiss me as I was getting out of the car, but he missed! I was so mad at my friend for setting me up with such a jerk! He had scars on his face, and I later learned they were from a dui accident he had been in!
