We are thinking of doing a RV trip up to that area this August. Wondering if anyone has weather hints or travel suggestions of must do type of things. Thinking about going to Gooseberry State Park and over to see the Split Rock Lighthouse.
Last year we went to Copper Harbor MI and it was cool up there that we were wearing jeans in August.
Thanks all.

I am close by, go there often. Weather in august is usually pretty warm yet. You HAVE to go to Goosebery falls and the light house. Go to the visit Duluth web site, they have a lot of info. Where are you coming from? I think there are several Ps that actually live in Duluth, but not sure they are over here yet. We like to just go down to canal park and walk around. There is the lift bridge. Watch the boats. Drive up to Lutsen and they have an alpine ride. Drive up the north shore. LOVE Grand marais. Sort of an artsy sort of town. What do you like to do?

August on the North Shore can be warm (not hot, but nice summer weather), or it can be cool and rainy. I would pack jeans/sweatshirts as well as summer clothes.
Are you looking for things to do? These are a few of the things we usually do when we spend a day or two in Duluth. We always stop at Split Rock Lighthouse and Gooseberry Falls too!
Glensheen Mansion Tour (read some of the fascinating history first) Vista Fleet tours Train Tours Skipping rocks in the water Park Point Betty's Pies William A. Irvin Ship tours
Pack a picnic lunch and just park somewhere along the water and relax, enjoy and have fun!

I agree that the weather is usually pleasant in August, but a sweatshirt and jeans are a must all summer long - especially anywhere near the lake. You might get lucky and not need them.
Canal Park is a fun area. Try to stay there until after dark so you can see the liftbridge all lit up.
The entire drive from Duluth all the way up to Grand Marais is very scenic and you can find lots of places to stop and investigate, but glad to see Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse are already on your list. You won't be disappointed. Be sure you have decent walking/climbing shoes - lots of rocky, hilly paths to walk.
Yes, Betty's Pies are also a must, but save room if you do go to Grand Marais for a Sven and Ole's Pizza!
Enjoy. That's a beautiful part of our state.

Coming from SE Wisconsin. Looking to stay at Two Rivers area but willing to drive each day. We are up for any adventure. Thanks for the weather tips. I read the site but sometimes it's hard to tell if it's really something cool or we'll drive for miles and see two little stones made into a memorial or something. Also have 5 days to fill and I know sometimes we have to drive a lot so you have limited time and want to make sure we see the "good stuff" . Good to know about the pie and pizza place, I'm taking notes!!

Betty's Pies! Yummy. Canal park and the lift bridge is fun. Gooseberry falls has some hiking areas and if it's nice you can get in the water. The lighthouse tour is cool.
