I took my ten-year-old yesterday. Neither of us are Potter people (we both read the first two and kind of went eh), but we did enjoy the movie. I thought the plot was thin, and it was enough with the blinky-blinky-Hugh-Grant-y Eddie Remayne performance, but the beasts were sufficiently awesome and the movie sufficiently good-hearted and playful that I really didn't care. I didn't realize that this is planned as another series. Oh, pleeeeze give book 3 a chance! Book 2 is the most "ehh" of the series, but after that they just get bigger and deeper and more adult as they go along.

Finally got to see the movie, did anyone pick up that Grindelwald looked like..... David Bowie!! If there's ever been a magical creature on this planet, it was Bowie. I loved the movie, it felt like home. My cohorts (husband, sons and their girls) were all quite "meh". My future DIL was so excited to see Johnny Depp. I heard her say "Well it finally got good at the end."

I loved it! I took my 3 oldest kids and they loved it. My 12 year old asked if Dumbledore's sister was an Obscurial and that is why she died (and accidentally killed her mom) and I was all 😱😩😭. Based on our research after the movie, I'm guessing she was. Which made me so sad. That Creedence storyline was heartbreaking.

I loved it, and I loved the Newt chacarcter. I really liked the way Redmayne was allowed to keep a more British spin on the quirkyness. The American way of portraying character traits is often more - in your face - or obvious (like Johnny Depp - quirky). Nothing wrong with that, I love Johnny Depp movies , but I really loved how awkward and introverted Newt seemed.

I'm a huge HP fan and I loved this movie. Loved it. You do get the most out of it if you read all the HP books but I think it's fine as a stand alone. Eddie Redmayne was great in it.

Saw it last night and was happy! I loved it. The storyline was pretty well done. We saw it in 3D so I want to go see it in regular.
I loved the end....hope it works out for them.
Johnny Depp as Grindewald was interesting!

I'm not a huge HP fan, most of what I know comes from hearing my kids talk about the books & movies and from the Wizarding World of HP at Universal (which I love). That being said, I took the kids on Thanksgiving and I loved it. Thought it was a great movie.

I loved it! Most of what I loved in the Harry Potter books/movies was the world that was created, because to be honest after the first or second movie I got tired of Harry Potter's character being the center of the universe in all of the plotlines, or that it was always about him being the chosen one, etc. I know that's likely to get me beaten in some circles but there it is, I've said it. I was always wanting more Hermione, more Snape and loved the development of the other characters. So a movie taking place in Harry Potter's world so to speak without harry potter, I'm there Only two criticisms that I had a hard time understanding the Newt character, although I loved him, I know I will have to put it on closed captioning to hear what he was saying when we get the DVD to watch at home. I also didn't care for the brown haired actress, she fell flat, didn't stand out to me at all as someone I cared about or would care to see again. LOOOOOOOOOVED Queenie and Jacob, however. Thought Colin Farrel/Graves and Ezra/Credence did a great job in their roles. Definitely a movie to collect to see again because I felt like I missed so much while it was going on, and/or I need to see it again because it was so good.

Not critiquing, but the whole story created WAS revolved around Harry. That was the whole series. His struggle and destiny. The rest were supporting characters. This whole new series will be revolved around Newt Scamander and the evolution of Grindewald from what I've read.

I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. Big on CGI, short on story.

I really wish Eddie Redmayne would speak more clearly and look people in the eye. This is my DH's main complaint and it isn't just in this movie. He doesn't speak clearly in any movie and he tends to be a bit frenetic in his movements. I enjoyed the movie and I didn't know about Johnny Depp, either. I'm not sure how I feel about his casting. I'll reserve judgement for the next movie when he's sure to play a bigger part. Jen

We went to see it over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I'm all for the expansion into the world of Rowling.
My youngest, who we haven't been able to convince to read the books, said she enjoyed this more than Harry Potter. I'm not there, but it was good. Adored Jacob.

I saw it Saturday and was utterly board; as in if I was home I would have turned the channel or left the room. I didn't like the Newt actor because he was always looking down or away and didn't speak clear enough to understand what he was saying. The brunette lead actress was very very flat. I can't believe studio executives would see a few scenes and think that her casting and/or portrayal of the character was a good idea. A very big weakness to the film.
Jacob the baker and the blonde sister were the true standouts and only when they were on screen was it interesting. I thought the CGI quality was a bit below the HP movies, especially when they were showing destruction happening (bricks flying). I am hoping on rewatching it when it goes to DVD it becomes more appealing but it was a long 2 hours and 13 minutes the first time.

I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. Big on CGI, short on story. I agree. I'm pleased I saw it on the big screen and I enjoyed the special effects and the fantastic beasts. The story felt disjointed to me. I love the HP books and movies so I was expecting more. I was not expecting JD so I am now looking forward to seeing that character develop in the next movie.

DD has yet to read all of the books. At the end of the movie, she looked at us and asked who Grindelwald was. !!! DH and I said in unison, "Read the books!" She Googled him and said, oh yeah, he's the one who had the elder wand that Voldemort was trying to find.
It's so much more, baby. So much more...
