I got the call Friday afternoon and was told they really liked me BUT.... I didn't make it to the next round. I am pretty sure I know what sunk me in... they asked if I knew anything about Pivot tables (in Excel).. I said I was familiar with them but didn't actually work with it. When I got back from the interview I did a quick Youtube on how to use Pivot tables and yeah, not rocket science.. something I could have picked up really quick. Should I have lied?? Yikes.. But the question really threw me at the interview. Maybe that was it and maybe not?? I was SO seriously bummed over the weekend, I didn't even get out of my jammies. BUT it is a new week and for whatever reason I wasn't supposed to get that job. Picking myself back up and going full force again.

I'm so sorry. When we hire, I get to provide input. It is so difficult to make the final call when there are two or three really good candidates. Many times, it's the wrong call. Maybe the new person won't work out. I recommend sending a 'thank you for your time/consideration' card.

Sorry you didn't get it. But, you have a good attitude about it being a new week and that you are going to be going at it full force again. Good luck in your job search.

Yes he left his personal line on the message and I am planning to call him back this afternoon to say thank you and all that. He also stated he 'could' give me some information on why I didn't get it but on the other hand he couldn't 'say' that much either... I am sure privacy and all that.

I'm really sorry. Be disappointed for a day or two...and then pick yourself up and keep looking. This job just wasn't right for you. You will find one with a better fit.

I'm sorry! In that situation I've said "Yes I've used it in the past, but not at my current job but I'm sure it'll just take me a few minutes to refresh my memory" Because really anything you don't know you can just hit the help file button.

I'm sorry. I know it doesn't ease your disappointment but sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise. Maybe there's something much better out there for you. Keep looking and good luck

Yes, it's disappointing now, but I do believe that just means this was not the job for you. Some other job is out there waiting for YOU! Keep your chin up and go back out there. Good luck!!

In that situation I've said "Yes I've used it in the past, but not at my current job but I'm sure it'll just take me a few minutes to refresh my memory" Because really anything you don't know you can just hit the help file button. Yeah, I wish I would have come up with something more clever than what I said. Another thing they asked if I used formulas in excel.. Well at my current job, they use EXTENSIVE formulas (could be miles long..lol).. I use some formulas so wasn't sure how to answer that one. I didn't want to come across as someone who can create these extensive formulas (cause I have NO idea).. but I do use all the generic ones and some basic ones. From their point of view I am not sure how extensive they wanted my knowledge to be.
