She made the decision long ago that no one else was good enough for her, that's all on her. Too late to be pissed that former flame has his own life and happiness.

I can't get past the part of everyone being good looking. What does that have to do with the story? So an average looking person wouldn't be accepted into your group? lol - all this fodder for discussion and THIS is what you focus on? You are missing the point by a mile. OP - you haven't filled us in. What exactly is the girl upset about? SaveSave

I wonder if she's generally dissatisfied with the way her life has turned out and this guy just represents a time when things could have gone the other way for her. It's a reminder that she never married and built a life with a family of her own. It may not be "him" in particular but her life compared to what "she might have had" with him or someone else. I bet you are correct and the old-flame becoming a grandfather is just a straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back of her regrets. I don't think it matters what the OP says to her. She's going to stay stuck in her own little misery.

I wouldn't say nothing, but I would say, "I'm friends with both of you, but I'm not your info source for what is going on in his life."
If she won't take that well, cut ties as you may always wonder if she is friends with you for you or for info on him.

Like WTH? with all those questions she only focused on the comment about them being good looking? and said they were drunk?? Which really would have nothing to do with them being good looking? OP are YOU the person fixated on the grandpa??

If I was truly this person's friend, I would make the assumption that she has just realized how much time has gone by and she is using his becoming a grandparent, of twins no less, and she is measuring her life and coming up quite short. I think she feels deeply saddened that she either didn't stick with him or didn't find someone else and has just really taken a look at her own life.
None of that matters really, but I would want to support her where she is now. I would probably ask her why this bothers her and even go as far as to suggest she might be dissatisfied in her own life because she missed out on this experience. If she is 40, she still can find someone to love, and maybe that someone has children from a previous marriage. Or she can adopt an older child once she is married and settled. She can still experience the grandparent thing if she wants to.
She just needs to get out there and really put an effort into finding a mate, if that is what she is truly upset about down deep. I would suggest signing up on line and offer to be her wingman for a while. You know, maybe you and your husband or another friend go to the same place she is meeting the new guy just to give her confidence that you are there if it looks like it is going terribly wrong for her. I wouldn't offer to do that for very long though. Maybe just the first two or three dates she sets up. I would also really encourage her to get her own place if she can afford it. I think that would help her feel more independent and help her self esteem. She could then continue building upon her life until she gets what she wants.
If it is really about this particular guy and the fact that his life is happy, then you are not qualified to help her get over this. She would really benefit by talking to a professional.

I know this good looking lady does.

I read the "good looking" descriptor as included to suggest the subject fit into the outgoing group, yet everyone continued to grow & mature except her.
Perhaps the source of this woman's ire has nothing to do with her feelings for the ex-boyfriend or his marital/parent status. Rather, she is described as having unrealistic expectations. Maybe she's still petty & upset more of the group stays in touch with her ex-boyfriend than her; she feels betrayed the group didn't dump him after their relationship ended.
My suggestion is for you to ask the reason for her reaction to the ex-boyfriend's announcement. Perhaps having to think about & articulate her thoughts will help her process them. Best wishes.

She's not pissed. Well, she seems pissed, but she's not. She lost the love of her life and he's leading an amazing life without her. She's jealous and sad.
Pity her.

I would say something like "wait...WHAT? you're STILL angry about your breakup 40 years ago?" and let her sit on it. See if she wants to explain it to you, but hopefully it will check her enough to stop talking about it. I've had my shared of unresolved relationships, but I can't imagine being angry about any of them by the time they are having kids, let alone grandkids. The slap across the face answer: Sounds like he's just not that into you. This is what I would do. I would pose it as a joke....and then see what she says.
