We always put up a real tree and and 2 years ago DH replaced all of our tree lights with LED lights. I don't like them at all...very cold and "neon-ish". We do use multicolor lights but am wondering if I worked in some white strands if it would brighten up the tree a little bit? Or, maybe there are different types of LED lights?
Any suggestions?

I totally agree with you. We added in some strings of the bigger opaque bulbs (the kind that you always used to have for outside). It kind of warms it all up some.

I hate LED lights. They are too blue and cold to me.

I hear you on the LED lights. I won't use them on my trees. If I were you, I'd toss those (donate, whatever) and replace with the "correct" kind to have.

There are definitely differences in LED Christmas lights. Some places that sell them have samples lit up so you can see what they look like.
Same differences are in regular lighting with LED bulbs. We bought a sample of bulbs before replacing our kitchen ceiling lights and found we instantly disliked many of them.
You probably want to look for ones that say "warm" on the package, but even better if you can see them lit before you buy.

It might look better once the other decorations are on

The same with me. I bought clear LED lights for the tree last year. They had a blue tinge to them. Hated it. This year I got the warm clear LED lights. It's an improvement but I'm still not crazy about them but I can live with it.
Last years lights are on my outdoor porch railings.

If you're buying LED lights, look for ones that are labelled 'warm white', they're much more natural, and not nearly as shocking!

We like the Martha Stewart LED lights. They seem warmer than some of the other kinds of LEDs. And they look like traditional tree lights.

The LEDs hurt my eyes. Not a fan.

I always put white lights in the center of the tree as close to the trunk as I can. Then I use multi colored lights on the outer branches. It really brightens up the tree and adds depth to the tree.

I also hate cold white lights. I finally found warm white LEDs a few years ago. however, nothing is prettier than white incandescent lights.

Definitely the warm led lights over the cool ones. And you don't need as many lights on the tree.

I bought a single string of battery operated LEDs for my outdoor wreath, 4 feet diameter. There are only about 20 lights on the string, I was sure I'd need another string. Those tiny, rice-size, lights look amazing, and one was enough. I bought the warm color.
My DH loves colored lights, my next tree will have the changeable kind so we both get our favorite. I bought a colored light tree last time to surprise him, LOL even when I was trying to do something nice the colored lights bug me.

What is the best place to buy non LED lights? We don't have our tree up yet but I'm going to need new lights!

I love my lights. They're what keep me from getting an artificial tree! They are little off-white pearl lights. I got them about ten years ago at Target and I don't think I've seen them again. I don't know what I'll do when they start burning out.

I am planning to go to Target tomorrow and look for some "warm" lights. Thanks everyone!

I agree. DH is fanatical about using LED lights. He strung some up outside and they look downright pastel! I told him we should just wait and flip them on at Easter.

I don't like the newer LED lights either, even the colored ones. They are too "primary" colored for my taste. I wanted new tree lights last year because all of the bulbs on my favorite old strings had faded and enough of the bulbs had burned out that they were done. I went to Target and bought several sets of the regular strings with the 5-6 colors of bulbs after looking at the sample lights lit up.
DH bought some white ones for the outside of the house without seeing them plugged in and they were awful. We only had them up one year and I replaced them the next year with warm white lights which he supplemented with a couple of the Star Shower red and green laser light things.

I refuse to buy the led lights. We tried them on our back fence, hundreds and hundreds of feet of them. Did not last through the winter holidays, we had them on a timer so they were not in all the time, they were for outside use too. We ended up trashing that huge investment 😡😡😡
We had the glass C7 bulbs on the tree, mantles, stairs, bar and outside along the front rooflines and porch and they were perfect. Sticking with those!

I have LED lights outside and LOVE them. They look normal. I bought them at an expensive decorating store and they had all the bulbs on display and turned on.

This is what I do. I also weave the lights among the branches, never wrapping them around. I use at least 100 lights per foot of tree. It really helps give depth to the lighting. I haven't made the move to LED light for Christmas yet though.

I took mine off after I was half done and bought cheaper ones that are not LED lights and have the warm golden glow like I like.

You could donate them right now and get what you like for your tree this year. Ugly Christmas lights are a no-no.
