only having sons I've not bought doll clothes.....um, ever.
But apparently our niece (5yo) is very into her "American Girl Doll" (it's not AG, it's generic) so it was suggested to get her more clothes and stuff for the doll. The thing is that I don't want to spend a lot on it because, imo, they don't take very good care of their stuff.
Any recommendations on what to get/where to get them?

Target has theor My Generation Brand. I think TRU has a store brand too. I have found some at Tuesday Morning but their stock changes constantly. Not sure if they have any now.

As the previous poster said, Target has a good selection of the My generation doll clothes and accessories. I was just in Joann this morning and they also have some cute clothing for that size doll. Use a 50% off coupon and they are quite reasonably priced.

A slight off topic answer. But yesterday at Costco they had a Dollie and Me set-so an 18 inch doll clothes and matching human set for $15. That's a really great price. I saw 3 different styles. ETA a pic

I bought Journey girl clothes for $5.99 each at Toys R Us the other day. These clothes fit my dgd's American girl doll.

if you know which generic brand the doll is - then look for the matching clothes ...all the dolls are slightly different shapes/sizes so while most clothes fit most dolls...not everything will fit all. Shoes especially are tricky. Target has Our Generation, Walmart has My Life, TRU has Journey dolls - all slightly different. We have OG and ML ones here.

Both Michael's and Hobby Lobby have 18" doll clothes too. Etsy will have some cute items. And I used to pick up things here and there for DD from the Dollar Store--not necessarily clothes, but she was into the "scenes." She got Kit's kitchen canning set one year and was over the moon with it!
Look on the AG website for some ideas. They used to have screaming good deals for Black Friday, so maybe you can find a good deal for Cyber Monday. I know I got Kit's kitchen for half off that year.

Joann's has some clothes for the Springfield dolls that fit the American Girl dolls and you can use the coupons. My DGD loves them.

I've found some really cute outfits at bazaars/holiday boutiques.. I think for $5 I got really well made, quality fabric outfits.
