I just started yesterday and wow, have I been fooling myself in thinking I was doing ok with what I ate!😕 Having to measure and record everything that goes in your mouth is a real eye-opener. I am using the free app and so far that works fine. I synced my Fitbit and I like being able to see the extra calories I can eat depending on how much I walk. I also like the pie chart showing how your food is distributed.
Just today I tried the bar code feature and that was great to not have to type all the info in. Where do you get info for other food? Is there an app or somewhere to look when you don't have the nutritional values available? It's still very new to me and I hope I stick with it
Any tips?
Thanks!
Jill

When brandy327 was active here she did a daily health and fitness thread. I tried to step into her shoes, but I've not done too well. In answer to your question, yes there are many fellow Peas on MFP. I'm currently doing WW online and I've had success with that, but when my online membership expires in a couple weeks, I'll be back on MFP. I like MFP better in many ways for all the reasons you mentioned. I've never followed anyone on MFP. So this is another call out to the health & fitness girls and others on MFP. How is everyone doing? I made it thru Thanksgiving week fairly well. I didn't lose or gain, which is ok with me. Between now and the end of the year (a nice short term goal) my plan is to cut WAY BACK on processed sugar and carbs. Those seem to be my trigger for bad eating this time of year. motherlemur, post often about your success or challenges on MFP and others will chime in. Good luck.

Between tracking on weight watchers and my fitness pal, I stopped posting here. Just not enough hours in the day! But yes, MFP is great. I would caution you on eating extra calories for your walks. Unless you're out walking marathons, you likely don't really 'need' more calories, assuming your goal is to lose. That said, MFP tends to give you a pretty low baseline of calories. I think it started me at like 1236 calories? Which is too low, so eating some exercise calories wasn't a big deal. I manually adjusted myself to 1600-ish calories and turned off the feature that adds exercise calories to my total available.

I'm using MFP and although I've only started near the end of October, I really like it. I have my calorie goal setting at 1500/day but 5 days a week I run for a minimum of 2 miles/day so I do eat the extra calories (some of those days I'm starving!) I will point out that I haven't registered a weight loss on the scale yet but my clothes fit different and DH has noticed as well. I made the mistake of not taking measurements before. I like that I can track my water intake as well.

I am trying to switch from WW to MFP. As *KAS* said, it seems I probably shouldn't eat the extra exercise calories but not sure yet. I am only into it for the past couple of weeks. It seems I can "cheat" more on MFP, and I don't like that. I need to figure out if I am really going to like it or not then cancel my WW if so. I wouldn't mind following some Peas here on MFP and sharing tips, etc. Actually just getting the old health/fitness group going would be great but doubt I would be a good host. LOL!

I'm a MFP drop-out but I need to get back in the habit - my eating has been crap lately

OP here.. Thank you all for posting!😀 I am on Day 4 and doing ok. Went to breakfast with my daughter and had my usual spinach, swiss and tomatoe omellette, a couple breakfast potatoes pieces and one slice of toast. In the past I would eat more potatoes, 2 slices of toast and some of a pancake. It was a heavy meal but now I know to adjust the rest of the day. For lunch I had a raspberry Greek yogurt and 2 celery sticks with a combined tbl of peanut butter - a favorite snack. It's almost 2 in the afternoon and I have just over 400 calories left for the day so I'll eat something light. I am also drinking lots of water
I really hope I can keep up with it - I'm still at the stage where it's a challenge and I'm not tired of it yet. Rainy day here so no walk with extra calories so I have to watch it. The last 3 days ended with extra calories. I have to watch that as rewarding myself with food because I walked or went to the gym is partly how I got this big! 😀
Would love to hear from other MFP people and get help and support
Jill

I find that I can eat some exercise calories back only if I have my calories calculated for sedentary activity level. That way I know the bare minimum I need to eat, and it motivates me to exercise more for some more calories. Currently I get 1260 calories, but usually eat closer to 1400 calories and have about 300-400 left in the exercise "bank" If weight loss slows down, then I cut back and don't eat as many

Maybe that's what I should do. Thanks!

Okay, just went into the app, and I already had it set at "lightly active." I run 2+ miles a day, and I am not eating all of my exercise calories so maybe this will be good. I didn't see a sedentary setting.
