you know, someone posted on my FB feed basically saying it's ok if you don't want to decorate. She had a whole long thing, but the message was its ok.
I'm a grinch, I admit it. I struggle this time of year, but work really hard to make sure my kids get the spirit of the season, and my lack of holiday spirit doesn't rub off on others. I didn't decorate until my DD was old enough to notice. This past weekend, we put up a wreath. We'll get a tree, but I don't know if we'll do anything else. Her message hit home for me, as I watch others gleefully celebrating the season and I'm over here with a rotting pumpkin on my porch I really need to get in the trash. If you love the season and decorate your home then good for you- I'm glad you find joy in it. OP, I'm not into it and struggle to get into it every freaking year.

we have a puppy and dealing with him and the tree may push me over the edge. Right on that ledge with you. only our puppy is 85 lbs, which means all ornaments, are going to have to be at minimum three feet up the tree. I'm contemplating a baby gate around the thing.

Every so often, I skip a year of decorating. I skipped last year because it had been an awful year of family illness and then I got a cold the weekend before Thanksgiving when I normally decorate. I didn't miss it too much but was happy to get my decorations out this year.
Maybe you could try something new for the holidays this year to get in the spirit. Do something special to celebrate finishing graduate shcool That is a really big deal and you should celebrate your accomplishment.

Both of my sons and husband gather the first Saturday of December and help decorate. As long as everyone helps, I'll do it.

He's tall enough to nose whatever is on the stove without jumping. if he jumps he can pretty much reach any waist high surface in the house. it takes a lot to get him to do it, but he will for extra special items like bacon. We learned this the hard way.

I'm feeling so lazzzzy this year! My mother reminded me that I have two tabletop trees (white and pink) that I could put up. So I'm waiting until this weekend when it's officially December to do it.

I was in the mood last weekend and put up the tree and decorations. It's always me that does it as hubby couldn't care less about it. But now, as Christmas gets closer I start to miss the Christmas' we used to have and just want to take it all down and forget about it all. Since my brother got married, everything has to revolve around his wife and her family. When we do finally get together with my parents, it's for 2 hrs at the most as that's all she will tolerate. I don't know the last time we actually had Christmas on Christmas. It's turning into another day for us and that really makes me sad.

We learned this the hard way. Ours is short, but he is a herding dog and for him to jump up on a barstool is no big deal. His cousins (across the pond) are often seen sitting on sheep and cattle. I have a large sheltie who can help him get whatever he really wants.

Today I was out at an outdoor mall and the doggy water bowls outside of the stores were frozen over. The wind was biting and they were playing Christmas music on the outdoor speakers. I felt it a little bit.

I'm not in a funk, but Christmas decor this year is 5 little pieces from Dollar Tree. No getting the packed Christmas decorations out. We aren't really 'between' houses, but with the Florida coastal purchase recently we are spending quite a few weekends there getting it ready for our occupancy. A house unoccupied for 2 years while in foreclosure needs a fair bit of attention so that's what we are doing. Bonding with it while we paint!

Thank you for this thread! I need to vent! It's been a difficult week. My parents 2nd home in NC (my great grandfather built it and it's been in the family since) is being taken by "eminent domain" and my parents are moving out of it today. It will be torn down in 2 days. So sad! About not feeling it, I understand! I am the same way. We travel for Thanksgiving, 10 yr. round trip. But in addition to that, I make 2 additional ten hour round trip to pick my daughter up at college and take her back to college. All in 6 days. Then for Christmas we make an 8 hr. round trip to the inlaws and a 10 hr. round trip to my parents. So I am always packing or unpacking and it is tiring! Oh an I will have a 10 hr. round trip to pick up my daughter before the trip to the inlaws. So I should decorate the van as that is where I spend most of the holidays! And all the Christmas decorations the kids put up makes the house look even messier that it already is with all their clothes, school stuff etc. laying around. So no, not excited about the holidays anymore. Too much work! But I did decide I only buy gift cards for the extended family as that makes less to pack for the trips. Thanks for letting me vent! I can't complain to family and it feels good to complain here!

I'm certainly not in the mood to shop. I'm excited about the tree because I have new decorations but the thought of shopping puts a dent in my holiday mood.

We're not feeling it either.
It's been a hard 2 years and we are just feeling like a dried up turkey.
We're tired of trying to get conservatorship over my MIL (we've officially thrown in the towel after she refused to grant my husband personal conservatorship because her health care POA expired). She is now combative, hit my husband, tried to hit caregivers, we've had 3 professionals including her own neurologist say she's not of sound mind and needs to be in a full time care facility - and yet the court appointed assholian claims "she said she's fine". Okay, then, we're done too.
Hubby has been released to go to work - but it's been almost 2 years and he's got serious qualms about even trying to see if he can gain back his career. I'm the chunky cheerleader in his corner but I'm tired. He's trying to get there - and at least he managed outside Christmas décor on Sunday. Right now I have a large brown box in the living room - the tree - debating on standing it against a wall and running tinsel around it!
Our savings is gone because one cannot live in So. California on 1 legal admin salary. Which of course leads to no shopping for gifts - no matter how good the sale. I'm tired of spending over 3 hours a day on the road to just go to and from work. It was amusing when I was 25, it's not amusing mid-50s! LOL Bonus, my favorite co-workers are probably quitting in the new year because the leadership has lost touch.
nope - not feeling it at all. And wow what a whiney post this turned into.

She had a whole long thing, but the message was its ok. it's absolutely okay! we went on an overseas vacation a few years ago that started on Christmas Day. I didn't want to come home and still put Christmas decorations away so we didn't get a tree or decorate at all. I have to say, it felt soooooo good! no getting stuff down, no putting stuff away. I felt so liberated from the holiday stress of decorating (even though I love the results).

I'm not putting up a tree this year. I keep my grandkids everyday & the twins are 8 mo old & have mastered crawling. I'm just not going to fight the "tree battle"! I live in a small home, so there's no where else to put it.

I am so glad others are not feeling it this year either. I was starting to think I am Scrooge. I have no desire to decorate or even celebrate Christmas. That is strange for me since I am one of those people that usually love Christmas and can't wait. It's been a rough year and I am just taking a break. Have to admit though that doing the card exchange here has helped. It has been a delight checking the mail.
