I will now spend the rest of my days puzzling over why my Roman Catholic Grandmother may have had a bagel serving tray in her pantry under the stairs. What does her religion have to do with having a serving piece? Not many older Roman Catholics would have such a piece. They were fine with just throwing the bagel in a bread bowl/basket if they even ate them.

The only reason I knew it something to do with bagels, is that I saw a Martha Stewart show on making bagels. And she put them on a dowel when the were done.
OP: fid your grandmother come from New York?

I knew if I kept coming back to this it would be solved! That's really cool, now that "I" know what it is.

What does her religion have to do with having a serving piece? Because typically Catholics back in the day were not consumers of bagels and lox as a general practice. I never heard of a bagel until I was grown. I don't recall ever seeing bagels or lox served at Grandma's house. Didn't even know what they were. Also, the piece is Judaic. NOT something you would be likely to find in a Catholic home in the 1960's.

OK, that is really cool. Did you by chance find the glass serving trays that would go along with it? Is that where you would put your bagel toppings?

Well I was going to say a Ham Stand. Glad I read all posts first! This must clinch my WASP mid America status. I've never heard of a bagel tray. Thanks again for new information, RefuPeas!

There is a huge Jewish population in Los Angeles - it is where I was born and grew up - so this would have been popular there too. A spread with bagels, lox, and cream cheese was a typical Saturday or Sunday morning treat in our house. When I saw that the OP is in LA, I felt it relevant to mention that the handles looked like Judaica to me.

I am Jewish and have never even seen this! The handles look like something that was on a Judaic piece my great-grandparents brought back from Israel. How cool is that!

MIL's maiden name is Cohen, so there are lots of lox and bagels to go around. She grew up in the valley.
