Supposedly three people have been shot. 😢
Copying and pasting hosschicks latest update:
Local news is now reporting that the suspect was alone and was killed by a university cop within less than a minute of the attack. He was armed with a butcher knife; those injured were either hit by his vehicle or stabbed, no life-threatening injuries.
Columbus Dispatch Here's an excerpt: Nine people were injured when a man ran into pedestrians with his car on the Ohio State University campus, then exited the vehicle with a butcher knife and started cutting victims. Less than a minute after the attack, an OSU police officer shot and killed the suspect. Despite rumors of a second suspect, police and campus officials say there was one person involved in the attack.
The attack happened outside of Watts Hall at W. 19th St. west of College Road. Earlier in the morning, the building had been evacuated because of a report of a gas leak. It's unclear if that was related to the attack or if that's why people were outside at the time of the attack.
Ohio State officials said nine people were taken to area hospitals. Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center treated five patients: two were stabbed, two were hit by the car and one who hid after the attack and just arrived. The last victim's injuries were being assessed. Two victims with lacerations were taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center. Two victims who were struck by the car were taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.
The attack happened at 9:52 a.m. An "active shooter" alert was sent at 9:55 to the campus community urging people to hid in place.

My high school senior has a class at OSU mwf from 8-9. She is safely back at high school and I know I'm being melodramatic but I am shaky and sick to my stomach.

I'm not a mom, but that's completely understandable, IMO. Praise God your daughter is safe, and prayers for those who aren't.

freaking out, waiting for texts to be returned and hoping to hear from my husband soon. He's working on campus this morning. It's always hard to tell where he'd be, he's in and out of classrooms, the hospital, and dorms all the time.

God Steph I am so sorry.
CFD saying 9 injured.
ETA: news reporting 9 victims, "only" one is critical. Husband hearing shooter is dead; they are searching to make sure no other suspects.
Thank you for the reassurances and the outlet.

Dh just called! He was heading to campus, his appointment was at 11am in Watts hall-- he was supposed to change the batteries on a wheelchair. He's trying to get ahold of his other guys, one is in Wexner, the other two are on campus somewhere, but he's not sure where exactly. Hoping they were between appointments and out of the way. He's thinking they may have been at the seating clinic.
I've got a ton of clients on campus, they havent' been updating their facebook pages as of yet, hoping to hear from them soon.

I'm hearing a suspect has been killed, hope that's the end of it. I'm just sick for everyone involved.

My nephew attends Ohio State. I'm waiting to hear from him or his parents about his safety. Praying for the students and staff. This is not how I wanted to start my 60th birthday.

It's unbelievable. I'm originally from OH and know students at OSU. Fingers crossed that everything will settle down soon and that students are safe. I also read that a suspect is dead.

All of the employees are accounted for-- one is sheltered in place waiting to be cleared by the police, the others were in their vehicles or at Wexner working. Holy moly.

I hate people sometimes. On every local news fb post, there are people making tasteless comments about it being a UofM fan looking for revenge, UofM needs to step up their security because OSU will retaliate, etc. Makes me want to smack each and every one of them.
I'm also seeing conflicting reports, that only the "gunman" is dead, no one was shot but rather stabbed with a machete. It's too early to be sure but did he have both a gun and a machete?

I hate waking up to a story like this. From what they are reporting here, the activity was at Watts Hall StephDRebel so they might have it on lockdown for a while even with the shooter reported dead. micheley, your reaction is in no way melodramatic and I'm glad your DD wasn't in the middle of the event. {{{hugs}}} to everyone with connections to Ohio State.

My boys were both in their dorm room. Kinda scary when it hits close to home.
We are still in Columbus, but across town.

CNN is reporting that it was a vehicle and a knife involved. They are not reporting a gun at this time (although I don't know how/by whom the shooter was taken down).

The 'active shooter' alert was sent within 3 minutes of the incident, and the area was declared secure within hours. No lives other than the suspect were lost today. Such a relief!

So grateful it was handled. I have to say the news was a little frustrating today, they were interviewing a student that was right there and he was like 'I don't want to spread misinformation or make moms worry more than they already are, I didn't see or hear a gun at all' they almost seemed pissed that his story wasn't bigger and he was being sensible.

When the University of Colorado had a person armed with a machete, I believe they sent out an "active harmer" statement. But then when people heard gunshots from police taking him down, there was panic about gunfire, people reported it, then an additional "active shooter" report was issued. Pretty confusing all around!
