I'm finally buying a new chef's knife, and I want to protect it and my fingers when it's in the drawer. I don't have a knife block and don't want one out on the counter. I thought of a knife sheath of the blade, but I don't want the handle getting all scratched up, either. Is there some kind of flat case to put a knife in? Or do you have some kind of divider in the drawer to keep the knife from banging against everything else?

I just use the sheaths. My chef's knife is too busy for me to worry about the handle getting scratched. I suppose as an alternative you could buy a wall mounted magnetic knife strip, but then there is the visual clutter w/that.

Here you go: link (They have custom drawer knife holders) This is the one we have: It swivels. We can turn it in so the handles aren't sticking out in the work space. We love it!

Lots of good ideas! Thank you all. I only have a few knives, not a whole set, so I don't need something that fits several. But I like the smaller ones linked here.

I have THESE hard plastic covers for mine. I got them when I was in culinary school and still use them.

I use the magnet wall strip. Although it is visual clutter, I love the convenience of having every knife I use at my fingertips when I'm cooking.

We bought a knife block for our drawer at IKEA. My good knives sit in the block. My other knives are in sheaths in the other compartment. It's pretty big though so you'd have to make sure your drawer is big enough.

My dh cut blocks of wood and glued on magnetic strips. The blocks were vel rowed into the drawer and I have my knives laying on the blocks secured in place by the strips.

All the individual knives I've purchased came with a sheath so I use that.
