In my family, we exchange names for Christmas but the rule is that we have to make our gift. This year, DD and I draw the names of my niece and her husband and thought it would be cool to make his and hers gifts. Any ideas? If it matters, they are Muslim...celebrate Christmas as a cultural thing.

And what exactly does "make our own gift" mean to your family? Can you give some examples of past gifts?

I saw on TV today a largish wooden cutting board where you painters tape a rectangle space in the middle and then paint the middle with black chalkboard paint ... you could write something cute in the space for them and give them gift wrapped chalk to use later It's perfect for a cheese board

What are your skills? Throw pillows could be cute and easy to do. Or personalized pillow cases. Key chains out of leather or beading? Tote bags for shopping?

Coordinating fleece blankets with the knotted edges? Ornaments from one of those paint-your-own pottery places?
I googled "Muslim gifts" and one of the things that popped up was an Etsy listing for prayer beads. I know nothing about their religion so that might not be appropriate. But I'd bet you could make a really cool/ lovely set.
