Alrighty....while looking online I found a cold shoulder sweater that I like. HOWEVER, I don't want to look like I'm trying to be young. I'm in my 50's. Is that too old for a sweater that has the shoulders cut out?
It's a turtle neck sweater with the shoulders cut out.

I'm in my 50's. I am not a fan of this style. But, hey if you like it go for it!
I probably wouldn't wear it with leggings and thigh high boots, that might look like you were trying too hard!

I'm not a fan as it was all the rage 10-20 years ago. That said I think it's a style for sassy stylish women in their 40s+

To me, it defeats the purpose of a sweater, warnth. I'd freeze.

I don't think age matters. So if you like it, wear it. I'm not a fan of them either. They just look odd to me.

I'd feel silly in it, but I'm not good at pulling off any popular trends.

Eh. I'm in my 50s. I wouldn't wear it. I think I would look silly. I try to dress a bit on the classic side, but yea..Now my dd's they would rock them.

If you like it and it makes you feel good, wear it! The older I get, the less I care about what other people think about my style. It's so freeing!

Neither sweaters or tops in that style are my thing. However, a friend wore one this weekend, mid50s, and looked fantastic. She had summer tops too and said then it was good way to not looked too covered up but hide lesser arms. She's on the fluffy side and carries it off well.
Chicos, that den of middle age, senior wear had a few this weekend. I think it's about mindset, not age.

You can see pics of the trend here, these are the crappiest version I've seen. However this I don't mind, it's nice. But again so 1993.

Okay off to look cause I have no idea what a cold shoulder sweater is....
DUH.. okay... they are kinda cute, but not my style... I guess if I found one I really liked I would get it.
I did buy a shirt the other day on clearance which I thought was cute and it is and fits good, but didn't realize there were holes cut out just below the shoulder... I wore it anyways...

I'm over 50 and I wear them. However, the cold shoulder tops I own are not anything like the above links. I'd say the openings of mine are only a couple of inches, like around the curve of my shoulder to the top of my arm.

I'm mid forties and really don't like the style. That said though....I firmly believe you should wear what you like and feel good in!

I have one and it feels really weird on my upper arms. It reminds me of the feeling of a bra strap falling down, and I occasionally grab at it absently like I'm pulling up a bra strap.
Maybe THAT'S the clue I'm too old to wear the style-- if I can't remember why or what is touching my upper arm! I'm 53. I probably dress younger than I should according to some of the responders on this thread, but I wear what I like. And I DO like it, like someone said, it's a compromise for my less-than-attractive upper arms.

If there's any style more forgiving to the "mature" woman, it's a frigging sweater that bares your shoulders. I can't think when I've ever seen sagging skin on shoulders. If you like them wear them. Anyone who says anything can just $uck off!

Thanks ladies! I haven't even tried one on yet. Maybe what I should do is go to the store and try it! I was considering it for party clothing. Yes, it's a sweater, but I thought it would be ok. I'd wear it with jeans.

I love them. It allows me to wear a sweater and still stay cool I overheat in sweaters but they are so darn cute. That and I have a shoulder tattoo that i don't mind showing off now and again. I have quite a few cold shoulder shirts/sweaters. Im 41. I never thought of it as an age thing. I just like them.

I have never heard of that before! I guess the fact that since my oldest was born 19 yrs. ago, I pretty much don't buy for myself and have no fashion sense at all! But I say wear what makes you happy and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. If you are happy you will have a confidence and look amazing!

I'm 46 and I can't see ME in them but I could totally see my niece (39) or her mother (my sister) (66) rocking it...they are much more fashionable than I am (not to mention much thinner and more beautiful as well - they look good in everything)

I read somewhere that they are great for older women because they give you some skin but not in a saggy area. Okay, I have a tunic one and get complements on it.

As you're asking - then yes, I think 50 is too old for that look.
A friend of a friend is that age and wears clothes like that and the term "mutton dressed as lamb" always comes to mind when I see her, even though she is tall and slim. I did wear clothes like that in my early 30s and pushing 50 I have no desire to recreate that look.

I read recently that jeans are something you take out of your wardrobe at age 53. Oh, hells no! I hate skirts and find many of the newer trends in styles look too juvenile for me. I also don't want to look like a polyester old lady. Sigh. I need to live at the beach and wear little clothing.

To me, it defeats the purpose of a sweater, warnth. I'd freeze. this! I literally cannot wrap my brain around this concept (probably doesn't help that I'm not a fan of the look either). I'm in my 30s if that makes a difference. I hope this trend fades fast because I'm so sick of spotting a cute sweater and then realizing it has no shoulders when i get closer.
