Hello Peas,
I'm coming out of lurkdom because I've been around the Peas for a very long time and I know that there just might be someone here who's had a similar experience and can maybe offer me some answers. I have a call in to my doctor and I'm hoping to hear from him soon but in the meantime please let me know if you've had anything like this.
Late this morning I noticed that my right breast felt unusually itchy. When I went to shower I noticed a sizeable rash on the side of the breast. It's itchy and uncomfortable, red and puffy. There isn't any other discoloration on the breast. I looked up this symptom on Google and I'm a little freaked out about Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Both of my breasts have felt heavy and swollen the past couple of days. I thought it was just due to ovulation. I know I'm not pregnant, but took a test anyway which came back negative.
Has anyone here experienced this and, if so, what was it? Looking for any info at all!

No experience but hoping your doctor will tell you it's nothing to worry about.

Have you had the heat on yet where you live? Dry heat can cause the skin to really dry out, especially on the beasts, which makes it very itchy and then the itching causes the redness and irritation. It can also be caused by a bra. See the doctor if you are worried but try some anti itch creams.

I had a raging itchy rash under my boob -- but it was just a fungus that cleared up with regular application of some prescription cream. Don't borrow trouble.

Get it checked, but I am hoping it's just yeast as listed below. I get yeast there and treat it with lotramin cream. I had a raging itchy rash under my boob -- but it was just a fungus that cleared up with regular application of some prescription cream. Don't borrow trouble.

I've never been to the doctor solely for it, but I believe it is (for me) some kind of dermatitis reaction. I have noticed that it happens more often when I wear ill-fitting bras and when I am particularly stressed or anxious about something. It usually goes away in a few days.

There are many skin conditions this could be. Inflammatory breast ca is the worst possible scenario and probably the least likely. Go get it treated. If it doesn't respond to whatever the appropriate treatment is for the diagnosis, then you should ask for a biopsy.

I've had this to the point that I've itched the area until it bled. I never found out what caused it but the cream prescribed by my doctor cleared it up.

I went in for a rash a few years ago. They scheduled me immediately when I called. It turned out to be just a rash. Our school had just switched to a new efficient cooling system and I was hot and sweaty most days. My bra irritated my skin. Thankfully they've changed the system a bit. It doesn't hurt to get it checked out!

Goodness, hope you got it checked, and stepped away from Mr. Google! Most of all I hope your itch has stopped-how annoying!

Well, this fall when I get rashes anywhere it's pretty much oak mites. They are terrible this year.
I feel 100% confident, Dr. Google is wrong and you don't have cancer.

I can think of twenty things it could be and breast cancer is not on that list.
My first thought is a dermatitis or even shingles if the rash burns and is only on one side. Could be tinea versicolor, could be allergic dermatitis, could be an allergic reaction.

Thank you so much, everyone, for all your thoughts and suggestions. I was able to get in to the doctor who diagnosed me with shingles. Since I was able to start the meds within 24 hours of the rash appearing they are hopeful that I won't develop any open sores (ew!) So, yay! I know some people have horror stories with shingles and they can be no fun, but honestly after fearing cancer, shingles is like a new lease on life. Haha! I appreciate all of your input and the giggles you gave me. Beasts! Ha!

And best of luck to you that you float through shingles painlessly!

Could just be a soft tissue infection. Take a sharpie and mark the outlines. This will help you see if its spreading. And you need to go to the doctor. At the very least you may need antibiotics.
ive had this very thing happen at least 6 times in the last 20 years. I had breast cancer in my right breast and all the doctors decided that the radiation affected the tissue and made it more susceptible to infection.
Good luck.
eta. Just read it was shingles. Be well.

I am sorry I was right. Shingles SUCKS. I had a very mild case because I caught mine within a few hours of feeling the burning. Even with a very mild case, I was so uncomfortable! I was cold but didn't want anything touching me in that spot. wearing a bra was a nightmare!
Hope you are on the mend very soon!

I'm sorry it's shingles but so glad it's not cancer. I get eczema on my breasts. It's uncomfortable and the first time my latest doctor saw it she was worried about it too. I had to tell her I was diagnosed by a dermatologist when I was a teen. And it responds to steroid creams.
