Mine just arrived, and the recipes call for pre-soaked beans. I thought I read here somewhere that you ready don't need to soak dry beans first. Is this true? Because that's one of the reasons I wanted this thing.
As an aside, I think I've flooded the board enough lately about my personal struggles, but I did want to just mention in case anyone is curious, my path report came back better than expected (tumor smaller than anticipated, no nodal involvement, clear margins) so my oncologist ordered an oncotype, and it showed little chance of recurrence...so no chemo for me! This was an unexpected but welcome bit of good news, which I sorely needed. Tamoxifen for ten years, but i can deal with that I think.
So now I have a port I don't need, but that's ok. It's a trade I'm willing to take. I'll have it taken out in the future.
Onto those beans...

I think some people still soak their beans from some of the recipes I have seen. However, here is a Chili recipe I have used that doesn't require the beans to be soaked. The beans were a bit on the firm side - not hard, but definitely not mushy, so I liked them a lot.

In the instant pot recipe book that came with it, it talks about how to get around soaking the beans in the refried beans recipe.

I don't soak mine, I don't do the 'boil for a few minutes and let sit for an hour' either. I just take them out of the package and put them in the pot. I put a red pepper and some bacon or salt pork in with them, southern cookin' = you have to have meat in the beans. They've always turned out great.

Wooohooo, about your health news!! I have made both Navy bean soup and pinto beans and I did not soak either. I'm not experienced with my Instant Pot at all, so I think I did the bean button then checked them. If they were still too firm I just put the lid back on and cooked them another 10-15 more minutes (I think). That is the novice way I did it, not the correct or experienced way
