As of tonight, I passed my FINAL final exam for my masters degree in Acute-Gero nursing. I started the program in August 2014 and did it all on a part-time basis and continued to work mostly full-time hours while in school. It wasn't ever easy but I am proud to say that I am now Meredith, MSN!!! I have been working for years in a big level 1 trauma center ER as a senior member of the team so leaving the bedside and my "home" won't be easy for me but I know I'm taking steps in the right direction for me long term. I will still have to take board exams sometime in January so I will spend that time studying and reviewing. I could possibly stay in the ER as a nurse practitioner but the NP manager isn't too keen on the trauma nurse in the NP role. I don't know if I can stay and enjoy the job and work. I haven't really looked for a job yet. Just too stressful to do all of that at one time. Plus, we are going to WDW at the end of the year so why kill myself right now with a new job, etc. So, time to celebrate and breathe for a while!

Congratulations! That is such an accomplishment and your future patients are going to be so grateful for all the hours you put in! I am a little jealous, though...I'm taking a mini break from studying for my series of three exams for a supplemental teaching credential. I am happy to hear you made it to the light at the end of the tunnel!

I forgot to ask you before----do you know what type of facility you'd like to work in now? Orrr...as an NP, opening your own clinic !?!? Going from trauma to acute-gero will be quite a switch; howeverrrr....I'm sure in all your years in ER, you've already been practicing with acute-gero patients! I used to work with the elderly and just LOVED them !!
