I need a white tee-shirt style shirt -- not a blouse with buttons, but a pullover with a scoop-kind of neck. I'd love both a short-sleeved one and a long-sleeved one, but if I can't have both then I'll take short-sleeved. I recently got rid of a lot of clothes but kept the FOUR white shirts that I have in this style. I wanted to wear one to work this morning so I tried them on. I tossed three of them into the Goodwill bag, kept the fourth for sleeping in the summer. ugh. The problem is that they are so thin! Even with my neutral colored bra I could still see through them. And two of them had necklines that are NOT good for bending over a kid's desk. Why did I buy them you might ask? I have no idea. So, does anyone have recommendations for this type of shirt that is NOT see-through, and that does NOT have a plunging neckline? I googled, and I see a lot of them are various sites but the problem is that I don't know how see-through they are without someone's recommendation.

Check out Christopher&Banks. Search for satin trim tee. They come short, 3/4, and long sleeves as well as tanks. Love theses! They are made of cotton and great for layering or wearing alone. So many color choices besides white too.

I don't mind a v-neck as long as it doesn't gape open and show everything I have to some 3rd grader. I'll check them out, thanks. Also thanks gotranch and mimima, I'll look at those places also.

I can relate. I just want a white t shirt that I don't have to wear a cami under. Makes me feel like a kid with an undershirt. I don't have a chest, therefore I don't wear v necks. I feel like it is an arrow pointing to my flat chest!!!!!

I just picked up a couple of three quarter length sleeved t-shirts. I wanted ones that weren't thin, didn't have that huge wide band around the neck so they look a little dressier and in petites. I don't know where you are, but I found mine at Belks (I think they are a brand called Kim Rodgers?) And goodness knows that they were cheap enough that when I inevitably spill something on myself I won't be mad.
I don't hardly ever shop at Belks-their petite section generally caters to a different style (apparently in my world petite means polyester and shirts with appliques on them.) I was pleasantly surprised with the t-shirts. They are heavy enough to not be see through, but light enough that don't feel like they should be worn on a ball field.

I got a nice scoop neck, thick, short sleeve one from Chicos.

LLBean pima cotton tee shirts are the best I've found and I've been wearing them for years. Other than being disapointed that they've decided to for some crazy reason not stock their V-necked long sleeve version, I recommend them highly. They come in many colors and styles. The fabric is not paper tissue thin or thin at all! It's a very nice smooth and soft cotton tee shirt that I usually wear for years before reordering. I recommend them very much!
