She said it was abnormal dysplastic nevi.
She told me to keep a close eye on the area and to call back immediately if anything else pops up on that site or near that site. She suggested trying to get an appointment in September or October for the full body exam [HASH]1 to do the full body exam but [HASH]2, to give her an opportunity to closely examine this same site again.
With my history of melanoma, this puts DS at a much greater risk of developing melanoma. She again stressed the absolute necessity to have a full body screening done on him. I wonder if she'll want to see him twice a year like she sees D [HASH]1 twice a year.
I'm almost glad I saw this for several reasons, First and foremost, it was caught before developing into something bad. Second, this will force me to get my butt in gear and have him routinely examined. After getting the results back, he's not even giving me sass about having to go. Deep down, I think he wants the exam because he wants to be careful and mindful about this.
BTW...DS is my youngest child...he will be 16 in December.

Thank you for the update! I have been thinking about y'all, but didn't want to ask again. (I didn't want to be a pest. LOL)
Good for him taking it seriously...smart kid.

I'm so glad it wasn't worse news, and that you now know what you're dealing with and you can move forward and be proactive.

I'm just glad you found it...now you can all be proactive and keep an eye on it. I pray nothing will come of it, though.

Thanks for the update! Because of your posts I made an appointment with my doctor to get several spots checked that I had been semi-fretting about. Turned out they were nothing so he zapped them with liquid nitrogen but thanks to you I now have peace of mind.

I'm glad that you caught it so quickly, and that he's being seen and guided by a doctor so thoroughly.
(((hugs)))

My fair-skinned son had his first dysplastic nevi removed as a teen and has had several removed over the years since then. He is now 44 and has regular checks and periodic removals, but so far they have all been pre-cancerous. Glad you got on it early. DS is also faithful about using sunscreen when he's going to be outdoors.
