This is the only company in the marketplace that is both affordable (below $1500 monthly) and is accepted by local doctors (but not our current docs-we would have to switch). It gets incredibly bad reviews on one review site I checked but it's looking like we have no choice. I'm going to try calling some local insurance places tomorrow.

Ambetter is the ACA product from a company called MHS (Managed Health Services). They have been a contracted provider for state sponsored plans in Indiana for quite some time now.... Probably at least 10 years I am guessing. I had to work on the provider side with them and we were pretty sure they were the devil incarnate. The worst to work with- most ridiculous hoops to jump through, look for absolutely any reason to get out of paying a claim, bury you in procedures so that you give up/miss deadlines/etc. Now that being said... I know that all managed care companies operate in this manner to some degree. It is how they make money after all. But they were exceptionally difficult. I have never known anyone on one of their plans (MCD or ACA) so I can't speak to how they treat their members. But I would be leery based on their reputation from my background. But on the other hand, if they are the best option in terms of cost and network then it may be what you need to do. Honestly, with what is left in Indiana... The choices are slim and I don't want any of them personally.

That was one of our choices, but not the one we went with. I didn't like what their plans offered when I was investigating them.
I'm not all that thrilled with the choice we did make either, but we had to choose something.

I'm going to try the mdwise marketplace again. I have a feeling the information at the Healthcare.gov site wasn't complete. The premiums are above $1500 which would be a stretch.

The hospital I worked at most recently did not participate in AmBetter. The first year of ACA, they didn't accept any of the Exchange plans. The second year, AmBetter is the only one they did not accept. But I worked in the ER (taking insurance info, getting demographic info, and requesting payment. We were not allowed to tell someone we did not accept their plan. And if they asked, we were to tell them they needed to check with their insurance company, as there are so many different plans we cannot keep up with them all." (Which is true, but we often did know.)
