I only use Facebook for things that have no other reliable way of communication. Most of my kid's extracurricular activities are updated on FB so I reluctantly have an account. I have less than 10 friends. And they generally aren't friends. Lol.
I also have made my account as private as can be. Last thing I need is my mom and some other family members knowing I have an account.
So anyway, over the last 6 months I've been getting a flood of Arabic and Indian friend suggestions from FB. Not friend requests, because I have that set up so only friends of friends can request.
I did have a brief period where all the suggestions were from the Dominican Republic.
What is causing this and how can I stop it? I'm sure they are all lovely people. But I should probably friend my husband and kids before I start friending people from other countries.

Trolls Spammers There are some hackers who are commandeering accounts, so it may be a hacker trying to get a way to hijack your account.

I can't for the life of me figure out how Facebook has connected me with my ex husband's wife and my husband's ex wife. But both of them get suggested to me to be friends with on a regular basis.

Have you ever emailed them or have they emailed you? FB will look at email addresses in your account (or their account) and if that email is linked to a FB account they will show up as a suggestion.

I had something similar happen recently - a flood of Brazilian suggestions. Sometimes I think Facebook is just messed up!
Jeremysgirl - I have heard that if you look at someone's page you'll show up as a possible friend. So perhaps the ex's have peeked in on you recently?

Easy: You have mutual friends so they use that for a "connection." We don't though. You know I just realized that my stepdaughters are Facebook friends with both of us. So that explains her. But I am still scratching my head on my ex husband's wife. She isn't even friends with my kids

I can't think of any emails I have sent that would trigger it. It's about 50 people a day. I do look through them and delete them because I don't want to miss the 1 person I might need. Then the next day there's 50 more. It's aggravating. It also confirms my 'FB Sucks' theory. Lol.

During the Malheur Wildlife Refuge occupation, Facebook suggested that I might like to be friends with Ammon Bundy. I have absolutely no idea why. It also suggested Louis C.K. to me once. I don't believe I have friends in common with either one of them.

That's really strange.. something must have triggered it at some point. I mean I get random requests (my original post about my aunt).. but from obvious strangers. But usually maybe one a month or even one every three months. I just either let them sit, cause they can't request again or I say no. Oh and some spam ones I get are also 'military' looking because of my son... so those come through as well.

Facebook is going to suggest friends. You may or may not have a connection to them; as in a friend is friends with them already. It may be you post about soccer practice, or get posts about soccer practice and these suggestions are people interested in soccer. Nothing nefarious really. FB IS about social networking after all... that is what facebook is about. No matter what you do FB is going to suggest people. There is nothing you can do to stop the suggestions. Just stop looking at the suggested list. Only pay attention to your news feed and to friend requests.

Location, location, location. FB often notes that you were at the same function of some stranger and determines that you might want to be friends. Stuff like that. Creeps me out they can track us like that
