smiles on their face while delivering bad news? I understand they have to look nice and appealing while reporting the news, but his morning when speaking of various things, like Robin Williams, it was just creepy.

I think they are just doing their job as they are told to do it. I think they are expected to come across smiling and pleasant, even when delivering bad news. But it also reminds me of the Don Henley song "Dirty Laundry"

I'm more bothered by anchors who sound like they grew up in Minnesota who suddenly have thick Latino accents when a Spanish word is in the story. Like San Pedro street suddenly has them rolling their r's like a native. But just that one word in the story. Everything else is still pronounced in anchor man monotones. It's odd.

Like they're DYING to be more expressive, and this is their chance!

I just figure they are doing the best they can.
Maybe it's their "hold back the tears" face. I don't think they'd be anchors for long if they were crying at every sad story.

I am not overly fond of the fake sadness some try to portray either. Neutral is good, but fake emotions either way leave me cold.

I agree with anxious mom also. I think a neutral , but not blank stare would be better than the fake smile or bawling like a baby. Disneypal, I also thought of that song.
