I am over at ACOT right now and in their new section they have a few light boxes for sale. Help me out here. What do you use it for? Is it a wall decoration? I thought a light box was for tracing shapes when dry embossing was popular. (No, I am not kidding). I must be behind the times!

Just a decoration. You can make it say anything you want it to say.

I think it could be fun in a room maybe? I have a golden coloured room. I didn't get any input on the room colour or lighting or anything. Just the cupboards. Maybe if you had a decorative wall or a bedroom? Kind of an IKEA looking room maybe?
I will be able to get by without one I think.

Elannah, I have always wondered too. No, your not behind the times. When I think of a light box is too trace something. Heidi's "light box" looks more like a marquees. She should have called it marquee maker. My Mom would like something like that. She would always have little different sayings on it. I can see the market for it. I don't want it. Rather have her new Cricut cartridge.

I use it in my classroom every day. I remind about tests, put messages about something important for that day, but usually remind them of that day's virtue. If it's Friday, I usually put a message about doing our Friday dance together. It's just a fun way to get my kids to notice something. I'm not sure how I'd use it at home though.

lilacgal- I just figured out the tagging thing. I am going to be tagging a lot this morning. I love your idea for your classroom. I am going to share that with my teacher friends. I wrote earlier that my Mom would love something like the HS light box. She really loves to write poetry. She has the magnet words on her refrigerator she is constantly creating new verses with. I know she would like the light box because she would be creating phrases or small poems every day. Plus, she could see it too since she has a lot of trouble with her vision. Now, I am thinking of getting her one for Christmas.

The light box definitely isn't for me, but THIS is a great idea!

I suspect this will be a fad that quickly seems dated. It isnt anything I would use.

I don't have one, but along the lines of what a pp said about using it her classroom.... I have a set of chatterblocks (oversized letter blocks) that I use to put up messages for my kids on the big mantle over my cooktop. Sometimes it is a holiday or special occasion greeting but also a good way to remind them of virtues/manners like "be kind" or "please & thank you". They really enjoy seeing the different messages are figuring out what they say (as early readers). I would think it would be a fun thing to have in a home with children for things like that.

Where do the words come from that you put in the box? Is there a way to make them?
I asked for a letterboard for Christmas, which is kind of the same thing but it doesn't light up and you can't change the font... I'm boring like that!

My DD has one and uses in her bedroom at her apt. She just puts up sayings and things.
You can find the letters, icons, strips, all the items you need for it at Michaels, Joanns and Hobby Lobby.

I have one and really like it though my only beef with it is that you almost need to buy 2 packages of letters to spell anything! I bought the cute candy cane style of alphabets but I can't even spell out "Merry Christmas" because they only give you 2 Rs! Couldn't do 'bring on the twinkle" because only 2 Ns. Frustrating for sure.
