Speaking of hummingbirds, we had one at 8 p.m. last night just perching on the hook above the nectar. He sat there for 5+ minutes. Even though he was only about 15 feet away, we still got out our binoculars to get a GOOD up-close look. He was precious.

I got my feeder at Lowes at the beginning of the summer. I haven't had any Hummingbirds yet and I was wondering if it was because the glass is clear and the nectar that I bought is clear. But I am guessing that by this response, that is not why. Any ideas? Really, the color doesn't matter. My dad has 5 hummingbird feeders, and the food and glass are clear. He literally has hundreds of hummingbirds come. He can't even put up the feeders without them swarming his head. It's really cool. But with that said, I am not sure why you are not getting any hummingbirds. Are you making your nectar or buying it pre-made? Dad and I make our own nectar. Thank you for answering Patter. I bought it but this weekend, I will try making some. Maybe it's because my yard is like the wild kingdom between the dogs, the pig and all of the parrots!

That is awesome! We have two that regularly come to our feeders- a male and female- they are always fighting over the feeders. I love their personalities and the cute chirps they make. Tonight I was working in the garage with the door open and one of them flew in to check to see if the red emergency release handle that hangs down from the garage door motor was a feeder! I make my own food as well- 2 cups of hot water, 1/2 cup of sugar. Stir with a whisk until it dissolves and then cool. No food coloring as that is not good for hummers!

We do hanging flower baskets that attract them too. Off topic a bit... My husband was in his shop messing around with something. He saw a humming bird flying right outside the open door, so he stood real still to watch it awhile longer. That little bird flew right up to his face and touched its beak to his nose! He could feel the air from its wings on his cheeks. He thought it was the coolest thing ever and so much wishes someone was out there with a camera. The only thing he can think of why it did it, was that maybe it could see his reflection in his sunglasses.

I've seen them at CVS, but the prettiest ones I've seen at OSH and Ace Hardware.

That's funny! Our parrots stay inside most of the time unless they are on the screened in porch with us, and the 3 dogs are usually in too. Maybe the wild kingdom should come in for a bit. LOL!!!!!!
