EZ Button -- That's a joke. They make it so difficult to shop there.
I ordered paper online because they were having a good sale. Had it shipped to store. Took them 15-20 minutes in store to locate package. Package looks like elephant stepped on it. Open it up, and yes paper is damaged.
Ask if they can re-order paper and I can just leave damaged paper with them. No, I must go home and call customer service for an exchange if I want sale price.
Customer service tells me that they will send replacement and I must package up damaged paper and send it back. They will email me UPS shipping label and I must drop it off at UPS location. Oh -- my local Staples just happens to be where I send my UPS packages from. I ask if I can just return paper to local Staples. No, it must be shipped back. Then I ask if I can bring paper and label to local Staples and they can box it up. No, I must do the boxing. Local Staples will not do it.
I give Staples 5 years before they go belly up. You can't treat customers like this and expect to stay in business.

That doesn't make any sense, their FAQ on their website says you can return stuff in the store that you ordered online:
I think I'd call that 800-number and not get off the phone until they make you happy. And in this case, making me happy would include them shipping a brand new pack of paper to me, at home, at their expense and writing off the other pack, because I would not be going out of my way to return it.

Experiences like yours is why I haven't embraced ordering by mail. It may be something that happens infrequently but I feel like it's always going to be me.

It is frustrating that companies who have on-line stores will not allow returns at their box stores. I have a feeling they are a separate entity as far as profits, etc. and that is why you can't return to the store. The store doesn't want their profit margin being effected by returns from the on-line store.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience with them. I have nothing but praise for them. I order from them a lot of work. Free shipping on everything. Once I ordered a cable and it was wrong, they didn't even make me send it back just gave me credit for it and sent me the right thing. I have ordered other stuff and returned it to the store. I buy a lot of ink from them and we get a lot back in rebates from them to. Last month one of our printers died, I went to the store and I bought a new printer and they exchanged the ink cartridges I had.
We also turn our cartridges into them and they give us credit for them.
I do hope you get your problem resolved. I know if I had those problems to start I wouldn't want to keep dealing with them either.

I've never had a bad experience ordering from Staples, but I absolutely HATE when retailers have such a clear disconnect between their online/phone business and their brick and mortar locations. It makes NO SENSE to me. Hopefully there's some strong argument on their business side to do things that way, but hopefully someday they'll realize the nothing-but-negative affect it has on their customer service.

I stooped ordering online from Target for that same reason....couldn't return an online order to the store.
I haven't had issues with Staples. We have a corporate account with them and are the only vendor we can buy office supplies from. But, they ship to my house (I work from home) and everything has been fine.

This is exactly what I would do. Your experience is completely unacceptable and I'd ask to speak to a higher level rep if that's what it takes. Foot Action tried to pull the wool over my head several times yesterday until I asked to speak to a supervisor. The problem started on their end and they expect you to jump through hoops to fix it? No way!

I had an almost identical issue with an order from Kohl's. It took over a month to get it straightened out and simply get the items I ordered.
I no longer shop at Kohl's-in person or online.

I had a bad experience with them too. I had to send a fax, which I did, then went to pay for the fax. Then I discovered my wallet was not in my purse. I did have another credit card in my purse which I went to use for my purchase. They said my card wasn't working (but it worked fine later that day in the supermarket so I don't know why), meaning I had no way to pay them. I said I would go home and get the money (the fax cost a grand total of $1.90) but the manager said I couldn't leave the store without leaving my driver's license... which of course I didn't have because I didn't have my wallet and he said I had to stay in the store until I could pay for the fax. The funny thing is, if I was trying to not pay for the fax, I could have just walked out of the store and no one would have been the wiser, why would I have wasted the time going to the cash register? I had both my kids with me and it was just an awkward situation all around. The guy behind me in line took pity on me and paid the $1.90 for me, which I was very appreciative of, but I seriously felt like I was a criminal! UGH! That store did end up going out of business.

See, they should come pick it up from your house. (I used to work there). On your statement, up in the upper left hand corner, there is an 800 number, call them and inform them that your order wasn't shipped correctly, and that you need it to be replaced.

It's been awhile, but I try to give my business to Office Depot since I had a bad experience at Staples. I purchased a scanner there, because it was more than half off with the rebate. So I went back to the store, armed with all my copies and the letter from Staples. I asked to see the manager--the same guy as before. He refused to give me the rebate for the same reason. "But sir," I said, "you assured me this would work. It's the reason I purchased this from you." "I can't help you," he said. "If Staples HQ won't send you a rebate, I can't take it out of my store's register."
So I asked to call Staples HQ from the store and explain to them--again--what had happened, only this time I could give them the manager's name. He snapped at me to wait up front while he went in back to check on something.
While I was waiting, the girl at the register got a call from the back. She called me over and sheepishly opened her register and counted out the rebate amount. She handed it to me and said "He told me to give you this." He never came back out, never apologized, nothing.
I was glad I 'won,' glad to get the money back, but boy did he leave a bad taste in my mouth. If he'd only been a nice guy about it I'd have a much different view of Staples.

I've always had very positive in-store experienes. I used their copy/collate service for a big project, so it wasn't just regular purchases. I'm sorry to hear their online services don't seem to match.

Wow! I hate it when your are trying to use your common sense in multiple ways to problem solve with a company and they block you at every turn! I don't shop at Office Max because I went in one time to buy some envelopes and they were ridiculously overpriced at almost $30.00 a box. I filled out the online comment form and the manager called me and BERATED me for commenting on the price of envelopes. I reassured him I understood that he did not set the prices, I was commenting to corporate, but he would NOT let it go!!!!

Because that's why I love ordering from Target, free shipping (Redcard) and can return to local target. Just rec'd daughters order of jacket in two different sizes. They weren't sold in store, sizes were said to run small, so ordered two and returned one.

No problems with Staples ever. I order online and it gets delivered. Did you speak with the store manager? I cannot believe they handled this so poorly. I would let corporate know because I think if they know, they can correct the problem.

I find both Staples and OfficeMax suck in the CS department. I also find them both over-priced and rarely shop at either. I'm sorry you are having such a frustrating experience. It would definitely make me re-consider shopping there ever again. I'd rather pay a little more for a product and get good service.

Since school starts tomorrow for us, I finally decided to remove myself from the slacker mom list and made a trip to Staples today. I really only needed notebook paper and a highlighter, but Staples was on the way, so I went there. My only complaint is that they didn't carry brown paper lunch bags and I really don't want to go to another store-so my kid will have to take his lunch in a plastic Publix bag. We are so high class.

I don't know anything about returning paper ordered online. I too would call or at least go to the store with a copy of their online return policy to show them. I've bought computer related things like external hard drives and office chairs from Staples at one of their stores. I've also shopped with no problem when they have back to school savings. My biggest complaint is they never seem to have the ink cartridges for my printers that I need when I need them. One young man asked me if I wanted him to order the ink cartridge online for me, so I could pick it up at the store. I told him no, the purpose of coming to the store to get ink cartridges was to get and use them right away, not to wait for delivery. I told him that I was actually capable of ordering it online and it would be delivered to my home, no need for me to make another trip to the store. He looked at me and said, "Oh. Yeah, right." There used to be two Staples within a few miles of each other, but now there is just one. Actually, Joann's moved into the building that the other Staples used to occupy.

My Kohls takes items that I order online in return frequently and with no fuss. Yeah, well this is what I thought. But they wouldn't. I made quite a few calls, and even a trip to my local Kohl's. It was Fiestaware, and parts of my order arrived broken. All I wanted was replacement of the broken pieces. You'd have thought I was asking for a million dollars. I heard quite a few different reasons why they supposedly couldn't do it. No two stories were ever the same. Like I said, it took me over a month to get my replacements. Never again, Kohl's. Never again. I don't miss shopping there, so I'm good.

The only experience I have had recently is that they took our Canon all-in-one and some other electronic stuff to recycle. Most places charge but they let you just drop it off. I don't shop there because they closed the location in our town and the next closest is a few towns away.
