I went to Target yesterday and the Christmas section was completely gone. They had some assorted candy bags, but their Christmas section had bikes and spring stuff. Um, did someone at corporate not get the memo that Christmas/the holidays are still here and some of us needed them to provide merchandise for us to purchase? The cashier told me that they marked the entire section at 70% off a few days ago? wth? Who stops selling Christmas stuff before Christmas? Very strange indeed. Then again, I get annoyed when I see Christmas stuff in August.

What? That's when you buy Christmas decorations, after Christmas.

I remember when Target had aisles and aisles of Xmas stuff on sale after the holidays. Those were the days.

That is ridiculous. I understand not wanting to get stuck with Christmas merchandise but isn't that what the day after Christmas is for?
It kind of distresses me more than it should that stores have so much control over how and when we celebrate.

From a business point of view it seems like blatant stupidity. Do you stop selling halloween candy before halloween?

Same thing at Michaels. They had their stuff on clearance 70% off for two weeks now.

Our neighborhood has provided a Santa Claus for our community for over 40+ years in a rocking chair at the entrance to our neighborhood for three nights before Christmas. I went shopping for candy canes on Tuesday for Santa to hand out.
The Walmart seasonal candy aisle was completely bare -- my 15 y/o son said it looked like the aisle had been raptured -- lol!
I asked an employee where I could find candy canes and why the aisle was completely bare. He said they were setting up for Valentine's! Ack.

I think they are just trying to make sure they don't get stuck with too much merchandise. It is a great idea for those that shop almost last minute. Just not last minute. We still have stuff in our Target.

I don't know...I can see where it's annoying, but I work in retail. From a financial standpoint, the last thing we want is a mountain of clearance to deal with after the holidays. Our aim is always to sell through by Christmas. I might have 20 yards of holiday fabric left in my department. I spent all week prepping models so we can start the transition to our after holiday sets

I noticed the Christmas section is already picked over.. usually there is quite a bit.. guess management took into account of it this year and scaled back? Our stuff isn't 70% off either.. either 30 or 50 percent off. I don't even know if I will go the day after to see what is left, it was that bad.

The Shopko here had most of the Christmas stuff on clearance a week ago already. W.T.H. Guess I'm glad they're all in on it together? Next year I'll have to plan ahead to plan ahead.

Same thing at Michaels. They had their stuff on clearance 70% off for two weeks now. We went to Michaels last week and I was pleasantly surprised to get great deals on a few things I needed for THIS season. But then, I really have no need to go back after Christmas because everything will be completely gone.

I couldn't find the mini candy canes at Target last week and asked an employee if there was anywhere else they would be. She told me they hardly got any in this year and the ones they did were long gone.

I had a hard time finding candy canes anywhere though I don't buy mine at Target-I don't like their peppermint ones. Finally found some at CVS drugstore. Shelves were picked over even at the grocery stores. Typically I buy Bob's candy canes but none to be found.

I was just at my Target, like walked back in the door about 15 minutes ago and all the Christmas stuff was still there. Picked over for sure, but a lot of it was still there and only marked down 30%. I wonder if it is up to the store manager to decide?

The computerized inventory systems have really worked to help them anticipate exactly what they'll need in the first place so they don't have to mark as much stuff down so drastically after. It's been like that for probably a decade here and the change was like night and day. I distinctly remember one year when they had a whole aisle of Halloween candy on clearance after Halloween and the next year NOTHING! It was weird because I went in there to get a couple bags of clearance candy for a project and they didn't have any there to buy except the regular everyday candy.

I must have been at Target on Tuesday, some Christmas stuff was 30% off, there wasn't a whole lot left. I only saw valentine's stuff in the dollar section, it was pretty cute. I don't see as much stuff left over now as years past.

I needed wide ribbon to tie around the Kohl's throws I bought black Friday. Went out Tuesday, and was feeling really proud of myself for not waiting til the last minute. Michael's had no ribbon, and what little bit of Christmas they had remaining was 70% off. Went to Target, found only 2 rolls that were even remotely close to what I had in mind. Target had a lot less inventory left, but it wasn't marked down yet.
I hate that they start the holidays so early, then end them before I'm ready, but I definitely see the value of not having so much leftover merchandise. If that keeps them from raising prices to offset the clearance sales, I'm good with that. Plus I'm starting to appreciate that it cuts down on waste in general. I loved after-christmas clearance sales, but inevitably bought a bunch of stuff I didn't need.

I went to Hobby Lobby on Thursday to get some more wrapping paper and gift bags. They had consolidated all the Christmas into a couple aisles and were setting up for new things in the other aisles. I was shocked at how little was left.
