I received a gift from Lord & Taylor that I would like to exchange and it came with a gift receipt. I looked on their website and didn't get any clarification to my question. Will the gifter know I exchanged it? Or only if the new item is less than the gift and thus they get a partial refund? Will the store tell me the price of the gift so I can buy something more expensive and pay the difference?

If you want to return the gift and buy something totally different, the store usually issues you a gift card in the amount of the gift receipt. SaveSave

when you return something with a gift receipt, you can get an item equal to the value of what the gift giver paid. They will not know.
