I buy a lot of things from Etsy. I noticed a lot of shops don't offer insurance. If you've bought something that's gone missing in the mail, how did the shop handle it, or even did they?
I bought something that's been floating around my area for weeks now, and I'm hoping it still shows up. But I'm wondering what'll happen if it doesn't.

I buy from Etsy fairly often, but hadn't noticed this. Thankfully I've never had a package go missing either. Hope your package turns up soon!

If the seller is mailing through USPS Priority Mail, then insurance is provided automatically up to a certain amount. Additional insurance only needs to be added for more expensive items. Perhaps that is the case in your situation.

I sell on Etsy. The seller is responsible for the package until it gets to you, insured or not. I don't purchase insurance for 95% of my orders since they're relatively inexpensive but of something is lost or damaged I will refund the buyer.
If you haven't received it or it is damaged contact the seller. If they're unresponsive file a claim with Etsy or PayPal (depending on how you paid). If need be you can always file a dispute with the credit card you used.

I posted about this on another thread. I ordered my second purchase from Etsy and it turned out to be from Croatia! I have no idea where it is, but I just ordered it on the 17th. The shop had really good reviews, so I'm hoping everything works out. When questioning them about if it would get to my state in time for Christmas, they never said they were overseas, just that they couldn't know for sure. They said they would ship out the next morning, so I thought my chances were pretty good that I'd receive it by Christmas. It did ship, I went to track and that is when I found out it was being sent from Croatia. It is a laser engraved Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Vinyl made into a clock. DH will really like it if it ever gets here.
I did get 4 other purchases through Etsy. All fast shipping.

In the case of overseas sellers, if you want to ensure you're buying local (to your country) then click on "ships from the US" or whichever country you're in. Any search results should filter out those who ship from another country.

I bought something on Etsy once (2 bottles of mist spray) and the padded envelope arrived open and empty. It looked like the tape wasn't applied properly and it opened, leaving the 2 mist bottles behind. Sadly since my post office didn't know what was suppose to be in it, they scanned it received, instead of "arrived damaged". They tried to change the scan when I got the envelope, but it wouldn't change. So the post office wouldn't help me with a claim. The seller was not helpful and did not take any responsibility for the missing items. It looked like the seller cut a padded envelope in half and then taped it shut. I sent pictures of the envelope to the seller and to Etsy. Neither one would help me. Since the seller didn't agree that the items were missing, Etsy closed the claim and since the post office didn't tag it as damaged. The seller did tell me they would resend me the items if I paid for the shipping. I said no and walked away. 2 bottles of mist was not expensive, but it was the principle of it. I never thought to buy insurance and I don't remember seeing it as an option. I don't remember seeing it as an option on lots of sellers.

The owner has just replaced the item if I never got it.

I only buy crochet patterns from Etsy, nothing that has to be physically mailed.

I have bought a few things from Etsy but mainly from Canada (where I live) ... no problems with delivery so far I did buy a necklace with pendant for dd#1 for Christmas this year from the USA and it was kind of expensive ... I should have looked into insurance but it arrived with no problem ...

The item I bought was sent First Class, so no Priority with insurance. It mailed out from Memphis on 12/9 and it's only coming to Chicago; should have been delivered for sure by now. The tracking shows it's been in various Illinois locations since the 13th, and last entry just shows on way to destination on 12/20.

Use the tracking number to put in an inquiry for a "lost package" with the USPS. Sometimes, that will trigger them to locate it and get it on the correct route.

I have bought a few things, mostly presents for dd for Christmas. I have a similar situation and am wondering the same things. However it's a very inexpensive item and was shipped from London three weeks ago. I'm wondering if I should give it more time or not. No tracking is available.

I buy a lot from etsy. I just ordered and didn't notice that the seller added a note saying that if I didn't buy insurance (it was a 50 dollar order) they aren't responsible if the package is lost. I only noticed it in the confirmation email. Hopefully it won't get lost. But I probably wouldn't have paid extra for it anyway. It should be insured already.
