Hilarious. This person will probably become my go-to Outlander recapper .

TFS I won't be able to watch the series unless it shows up on Netflix or online somewhere, but reviews like this are the next best thing.

I read the book a while ago and it may be a while before I get the opportunity to see the mini series but thanks for that :-)

Ohhhhhhh, it's only just dawned on me that 'Outlander' is the book published with the title 'Crosstitch' in the UK - talk about being slow to link it up!!

Reminds me of some of the recap writers on Television Without Pity.

Thank you for sharing, that was hilarious!! My only point of contention is I like all of Franks historical talk.
I've been thinking about trying to find this series to read but something I read mentioned a "50 Shsdes" comparison. I don't mind a good sex scene every once in a while, but I don't want to read an over the top harlequin romance.
If anyone has read the books, please share your review!

Um, it's nothing like 50 shades of grey. Yes there is sex in the book. Yes there is rape and sadism. But it's such a small part of the book, and the subsequent books do have sex in them but not as much as the first book does.
In my opinion, the first book is a great story, but not as well-written as the later books, which makes sense because the author wrote _Outlander_ to learn how to write novels. She never expected anyone to read the book, let alone get it published. That's not to say that it's not well-written because it is--it's very very well researched and historically accurate (as far as the historical characters and events are concerned). If you like history, I think you'd like the series.
it's my favorite book series of all time.
ETA: I saw an online interview with the author, and she said that the book series is the story of how two people stay married for so long.

Outlander is NOTHING like 50 Shades. Nothing.
I thought the article was well written and pretty funny. Diana put it up a few days ago and said that she liked it as well.
BC2CA, the first episode is free as of now, and supposedly we will be able to watch it from other sources. I really don't want to subscribe to Starz, so I'm waiting to see what happens this weekend.

"UK fans of the books may have to wait a while yet as there is no confirmation about when the series will be shown in the UK."
Soooooo unfair!!!

I think Starz could make money if they offered the show episode by episode on something like Amazon videos where people could pay per episode. I don't want starz, but I wouldn't mind paying to watch just that show.

They'll probably do what HBO does - not have the first season available for purchase, like on iTunes, until the next season is ready to go. Really the only way to get around that, without subscribing, is illegal downloads. Game of Thrones leads the way in illegal downloads, last I heard, but Outlander will probably be very popular soon too. I don't know why they do it that way, because they could make so much more money from those who don't want to or can't subscribe to cable/satellite, but want to legally watch the shows right after they've aired, like most network shows do.

This cracked me up. I read the first 4 books in the series and then quit. I never did get what all the fuss was about. I was mostly confused about a time travel book that did not really deal with the issue of "time travel." It just seemed bizarre. I know I am one of the few dissenters though as most people love this series. Of course I hated the "time travelers wife" as well, so maybe time travel isn't for me. LOL

I like your recap. I wouldn't mind Jamie taking me hostage. He is HOT. I may have to read this series.

Love this review!!!
I'm almost finished with Book 3 in the series "Voyager". I started reading "Outlander" when I first saw the commercials for the series on Starz. I also thought it was a romance novel, bodice ripper type of novel which is why I avoided it all of these years. Boy was I wrong!
It is nothing like 50 Shades! It is incredibly written-Diana Gabaldon is an amazing writer! After almost 50 years of reading I have to say she is now my favorite writer. Give it a chance. You won't regret it.
I met a elderly man in Barnes and Noble this past Saturday who stood in line in the coffee shop behind DH and I. He had it in his hands. I turned around and asked him if he was buying it because it was my favorite book. He said he was buying it for himself and that his wife had recommended it.

I agree it's nothing like 50 Shades. I did think it was a bit like Sarah Donati's Into the Wilderness series. There is even a bit of Outlander crossover in the Donati series...although no time travel.
