I make strawberry jam every summer, and yes, strawberries can get molded overnight.

The mold must have been really frustrating, especially when you're excited about trying something new. I'm glad that you are going to be able to get a refund.

Wow,that's awfully fast. I miss the old days when you could pick your own strawberries, cherries, etc instead of buying them in bags or containers. Glad they are going to refund your money. We have a local place where you can pick your own strawberries from late May-early June. I forget about every single year until it's too late!

Strawberries really don't last long off of the plant. My papa worked in the strawberry industry for most of his life. When we would pick them ourselves, he would make sure we only took enough to eat in the next couple of days. He told us to refrigerate them, unwashed, to last a bit longer.

thanks for the vinegar tip, will have to try that next time as strawberries do seem to mold fast these days.

I always think of the vinegar tip, after the berries go bad

The higher the sugar content, the faster they will spoil. That's why the giant, tasteless California berries are available year-round last for so long.
That stinks yours went bad, but I'm not surprised at all. Two days is the outside for local berries lasting here.

My jam turned out wonderful! I got my new strawberries this am and then made the jam right away! I have 16 jars cooling off right now!
