in the same way that I do here. A friend posted The price I'll gladly pay... and while I get where the author is coming from her argument is so flawed that I could barely stand to read it. Then I realized that it's the peas fault. So I came here instead. This article is so flawed! This part bugged me the most though: The analogy is just wrong. When you go you are charged for those things, as a paid for service. If you don't pay, someone does. It's not "free for all" in the US. It's not a tax payer supported system, and it's not required. You can not go to the doctor all you like, people do it all the time. Now I don't want to argue about health care and our system, because that's a whole other ball of of wax. But I can't stand this type of straw man argument. Especially since I agree with her in premise and wish she made a strong and valid argument instead.

I'm not understanding at all what is trying to be compared here. Is she saying that like students, patients should be responsible for the supplies they need at the hospital? I have never seen a hospital bill but from what I have read here, the bills are itemized and the patient or health insurance company do indeed pay for the supplies.
I'm very confused.

Wouldn't this be more like the doctor needs to pay for supplies to treat the patient?

I think she's saying doctors don't pay for our bandaids, so why should teachers be expected to pay for classroom supplies? The author was also saying people carrying expensive purses and smartphones shouldn't bitch about spending $7 on 10 Expo markers and made a point of getting in that woman's space to smugly reach for a bigger pack of markers. Judgy McJudgerson was apparently having as bad a day as the lady bitching about the markers.

I don't even know. I tried to figure out exactly what her argument was, even trying to figure out how she figures that parents aren't paying for anything even though they pay property taxes. I really do understand (sort of) the point she was trying to make, but it's just a terrible argument and doesn't work at all.

Ah okay, that makes sense - I had the wrong players paying. And I agree, teachers shouldn't be paying for stuff and neither should parents but we can't seem to get back to the old days when we didn't need so much stuff in the classroom to learn so here we are, another school year and another parent ticked about the topic.

It makes me laugh because she wouldn't have wanted to hear me bitch about $0.79 spiral notebooks. For years I bought the amount requested on the list and every year my kids would come home with one or two pages used in so many of them.

The tone of that article was really off putting.
