A. La Jolla Shores was a LOT nicer when almost no one knew about it.
B. People in general have become more and more inconsiderate of others. I blame it on the entire death of etiquette on the whole. There have been numerous threads over the years with people bemoaning the overall lack of etiquette in a number of areas, and many times they've been pooh-poohed. "Etiquette is old-fashioned" "Times change" "What worked for one generation doesn't necessarily work for another" "Stop being a granny and get into the 21st century" lather, rinse, repeat.
Well, I say etiquette is necessary for people to learn how to be nice to each other. Proper etiquette demands that you think of others before yourself. And there in lies the harm that many are saying doesn't exist.
Little by little the niceties wear away, are forgotten, or relegated to yesteryear, and before you know it you have a generation of rude, inconsiderate little egoists.
Stepping down now.

Wow--I can't imagine doing that OR letting my kids do that! We've experienced something similar with people running through our campsite, and it really irritates me. I know kids don't always pay attention, but adults should know better!

Ack. There is a beach etiquette, but dang if not everyone knows it or bothers to follow it. Don't shake out your towels upwind of people, step away as much as possible and gently shake downwards. Don't walk over people's stuff/area. It is just rude. And for Pete's sake, don't set up your chairs directly in front of someone that got there early enough to stake out a place that doesn't have someone in front of them so that they have a direct view of the water. (The exception of course being if that person has set up 15 feet back, but still-don't plop your chairs directly in front of them.) I am a life long beach goer and get a little first world annoyed when people don't consider the people around them. That. Every word. Even if they don't "get" beach etiquette, common courtesy tells you not to walk on someone else's things.

We had the same problem at the watermark today. We had chairs in a circle around our towels and we still had one family consistently walk right through the middle of it all.

That's just darn rude. I'd have been tempted to get my towel all sandy and shake it out all over the smoking mothers.

I know kids don't always pay attention, but adults should know better! Same here. I feel like I'm the only one constantly reminding my kid to stay out of other camp sites. I am purposely loud about reminding my kids, so that other kids can hear me.
