I PROMISE to come back with the story - but darn work is getting in my way! Let's just say she did crumble - cried (surprised the hell out of me) and said she knows she needs to get help!

I'm back! This may be long but you all asked for it!
So the co-worker was transferred to our office almost two years ago when the location she worked at was closed, just prior to a major realignment across the state. She had a job, unlike a few others who had to be laid off. She came from a different region which meant a different manager. A manager who let the offices do whatever they wanted, didn't check what invoices were, just signed them, you get the point.
Some may say that is so awesome but it gave them the attitude that what they were doing was the norm which was the Manager's fault but gave them a sense of entittlement. The office was very disfunctional. They had happy hour(s) in the afternoons at the office (not something allowed), and the co-worker would sit and read books all day, some how manipulated another in her office to do her work. When she moved to our office she was replacing a dear friend who had been out on disability and subsequently passed due to cancer. From day one she complained about how things not filed, not up-to-date, etc. The professionals that we work with had taken alot of the work on their own because of the other's illness so yes, things were backed up. Instead of diving in and being thrilled to have a job she complained loudly to anyone who would listen.
Not the brightest crayon in the box she would send emails to others in the region she came from, print them and just leave them in the shared printer. We have a basket by the printer to put 'lost' items in so I would just put them there until one of the subject lines had my name on it . . . it was a lengthy email back and forth about how I sit in my office all day with my door closed and do nothing. I don't know my job, lose items, etc. So yes, I made a copy of it and put it in a file in my office. Over the course of 3-5 months these emails got increasinly worse. She was pissed that our manager had to direct her specifically about her job because there had been complaints about her work. So, why not blame me, right, I have nothing to do with her job and what she does. She just wanted to slash out at someone. And I was the target because I work for the manager directly, why not blame me.
She would come to me to ask questions about how to format a document (she has been with the company for 27 years and because she pawned her work off to someone else she couldn't even put in simple page numbers), ask my opinion on how something should be done, forward me a document asking if I could take a look at it because she could figure out another simple process. She was trying to get me to do her work just as she had the other co-worker.
Meanwhile, she wasn't happy where she had to sit in the office. She was in a receptionist type area and complained that the braces under her desk were in her way and she was constantly hitting her knees on the braces causing brusing and injury. So instead of asking our manager about fixing the problem, she filed an EEOC complaint based on discrimination in the workplace. The company was in compliance and the case was dismissed. Again - she is pissed at me because I have an office. I work in a different position than she does and need the privacy for confidential matters I have to deal with.
I always give everyone the benefit of doubt - it is just who I am. One fine day I get a phone call from another co-worker from across the state. She wanted me to know that my co-worker had been bad mouthing me and said she was going to get rid of me somehow! I waited for the perfect opportunity when it was just her and I in the office. I told her that I was told what she had been saying about me (look of shock and 'who me' on her face). I told her that we have to get along because of the nature of our job but we don't have to be friends. Of course she wanted to know who said what (more revenge I'm sure) and that it was all lies. I didn't tell her about the copies of the emails I had but I told her that making bad decisions is part of life but blaming others for your bad decisions is immature. Those who know me know what type of individual I am and I now know what type of individual you are.
I turned and walked away. That felt so good and maybe not sound much like growing a pair but for me it was a Triumph! The next day she came in to my office and asked if we could talk. She said she needed to get help, that her children had told her that as well and she was sorry and hoped that I could forgive her. To be honest I couldn't tell if she was being truthful. So I just told her that she just needed to do her job and stop blaming me for things that don't go her way. If we have to colaborate on anything we will in a professional, fair manner, but I don't want to find another email from her left in the printer with my name on it (look of terror - priceless). She left my office crying and I had no compassions for her at all!
