I have been scrapbooking for a while and have so much in my stash already that the only thing I purchased were the pocket page protectors and some albums. I came up with my own method for making a "kit" using double-sided paper (therefore well coordinated). I don't foresee purchasing kits or subscribing to a kit club any time soon.
I'm curious how many others are using your own stash instead of buying kits.

I did the very first year of PL....back when I was doing a photo-a-day. It made it so much more time consuming for me and it took forever for me to finish that album. After that year, I decided it was worth investing in the kit. Of course, now my problem is overbuying because there are so many more options that 5 years ago.

I use most of my own papers. I've bought a few theme kit on clearance and a couple SNAP and We Are Memory keepers small kits, but that's about it.
I have some great papers I love and I'd much rather use those than large kit that looks so much the same. I just pulled out a bunch of the papers I liked and wanted to use and sat with my trimmer during a football game and cut them up so they were ready to go when I was.

I add in my stash, but don't use it exclusively. I love, love, LOVE the cute phrases and quotes and things on the PL cards. It's hard for me to recreate that sort of thing with my stash. So I mix and match actual PL cards with papers cut from my stash. I do like the look of both together. I think if I used just PL cards exclusively, if get bored. So this is a good mix for me.

I use a mixture of a core cit, a mini kit and my own stash including patterned paper, stamps & dies. I love the combination and I have a lot I need to use up!

I don't really PL, but I use pocket pages and I do do a two page monthly spread.
I use only my stash. I don't own any actual PL products at all.

That would be me. About halfway through my first year I realized that I really did NOT like the rounded corner look so I stopped doing it. Despite that, I still used the PL cards I had but come year two I abandoned them. I just don't like the look of rounded next to unrounded pictures. I have six kits that are just sitting around not being used. I have purchased a few digital PL kits, but I find that most of the time I either journal directly onto pictures or I just cut cards from my own stash. I'm in my 3rd year and I'm pretty much over the cutesy cards. AFter a while they all started to look alike to me.

I love to cut down my older papers in my stash and use in PL. I do occasionally use the cards from core kits and PL kits, but not exclusively. I do like using the embellishments that come in some of the subscription kits, which are usually items that I don't have already.

I do a mix between my stash and cards from various kits. Some spreads are more heavy on stash, some more heavy on PL cards. It depends on the look and style I'm going for with that particular week.

I do a mix of both. It just depends on how I want that spread to look. I did notice that I tend to use my stash more for holidays since I don't have cards for these, but do have tons of Halloween/Christmas/etc papers.

I mostly use my stash. I have the PL dies so it's easy to just cut out my own cards. I embellish them or stamp phrases on them and I'm good to go. I did buy a one of the mini kits recently but I use still add my own cards.

Although I sub to the Citrus Twist PL kit, I use mostly the 6x6 pad and cut my own cards. I've never even bought a core kit; the closest I've come is one of the Heidi Swapp value kits. Lol. I usually supplement the kit with my stash because I love to make my own stuff and use more embellishments than I should.

I meant to, but realized I'm too lazy to be creative. I don't do Project Life, but I do scrap with divided sheet protectors. If I use embellishments or other paper it's usually to add to a journal card.

I challenged myself to use up some old page kits by doing regular pages, and then I get the scraps for my PL. I t is working for now! Love throwing those empty bags away and having some new cards to play with on my weekly spreads.

I do a mix of both too. I love the ease of the cards, but usually use my own stash for 4x6 slots.

I should use my stash more than I do.... for some reason I'm not as happy when I cut down 12x12 paper. Maybe because I know my trimmer in wonky and it shows more in those protectors LOL

I use a mixture. I have a ton of BH PL cards but I seem to make my own out of my stash more.

I use both as well. I noticed it depends on how well I picked a core kit to fit the album I'm working on. I did a lot of subbing in when I used the Midnight Collection. I probably should have initially chosen a more colorful set.

I have used my stash which is awesome because I am using my stash, lol. I have not bought any PL cards except journaling or date cards, etc.

I've always bought a core kit in the past, but I've accumulated months' worth of my Citrus Twist kit from when we had our house on the market and then moved last year. I was basically on a scrapping hiatus for 8 months, so I have a huge backlog of kits that haven't even been touched. I'm thinking I may go with making my own PL stuff for my 2015 album, but some of the core kits are so darn cute it's hard to resist! I do like having a cohesive look in my album though, and that's built in when you use a kit that's already coordinated for you. I know I could use some repeating elements (learned that from Shimelle!), but that takes planning!

I use about have PL cards and half 'homemade' cards... I scrap a lot of 8x8 LOs, so I end up with a 4x12 and a 4x8 leftover that get turned into PL cards... Part of the reason why I love 8x8 LOs actually - I get a lot of use out of one 12x12 sheet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used a kit the first two years when I was doing a photo a day but then the third year I switched to a monthly layout and used basically scraps from my favorite paper packs. I loved it. I liked using my stash much more than the kits but must confess I just bought a few kits on mega clearance from amazon. I do like a lot of the cute sayings on the cards. I did use the journal cards just the lined ones and then embellished them the year I worked from my stash. I started it again this year doing a pic a day but quit months ago. We put our house up for sale and the months leading up to that and the subsequent move there was just no way to keep up with it and I hardly took any pictures during this time . I bought some cards and mini albums to use for gifts this year as there is no way I am going to complete a gift scrapbook or two or three this year. It just isn't going to happen but I want to do an actual book vs going the shutter fly method. I think the cards will help make the process go faster and I can still add my own cards or embellish if I feel the need.

Being that I used to be a "Creative Memories" scrapbooker, whose style just evolved over time...I have a lot of 12x12 paper still and embellishments. It's hard for me to justify the purchase of a Project Life kit when all that's required is just a little effort to cut down my current stash. However, I do find that the Project life 3x4 cards are great for whipping up a quick card or leaving a little "love note" for the boyfriend. So if I do come across a kit on clearance or a mini kit on sale that's cute enough, I'll make the purchase. I also take any of the "leftovers" from my project life friend when she gets bored of a kit or doesn't particularly care for certain patterns.
I just can't imagine using just one kit for an entire album. Unless of course, I was giving the album away as a gift or something. I still enjoy the creative aspect of scrapbooking and have just merged this with the whole project life concept.

I use my own stash all the time but not exclusively. Having said that it's been some time since I purchased a kit and the last one I did buy I've almost used up. I find myself running out of 4x6 cards all the time so my first go to place is my own patterned paper.

I prefer using from my stash. I like things super simple.... Probably boring for most. I have a few kits but don't use them too much. I end up cutting up papers from my stash. I like to just write phrases myself.

I used my stash, and SC PL subscription, still it was a shock when went hog wild cutting up all those sheets of paper that it made a LOT of PL cards! Of course then I had to invent a storage system for them, and then found my PL pages are very photo centric and I use few cards! Oh the irony lol

I like to just write phrases myself. I wish I had the handwriting to write more phrases as filler cards myself.

I used cardstock from my stash but I do own 3 core kits. I do 2 pages for a monthly review. If some months have more things going on it might be more. I cleaned up my scrapbook room recently and said I was not buying anything else for awhile - I've got way too much to ever use up. But like everybody else, I just had to have it back then. Also most of mine was bought with a Michael's coupon or a gift certificate given me. So I don't feel too guilty about all I have.
