We have a couple of 10+ hour flights in our future and I am a terrible plane sleeper (usually because I am just too excited to be traveling).
I bought some Melatonin at Costco and plan to try it this weekend. I am wondering about dosages and how that differs between adults and kids? Also, any tips? I know some people swear by Melatonin and others say it doesn't work for them.

Is it the quick dissolve 5 mg tablets? That's what I take nightly. I don't think you can OD on it...take one tablet and if after about 30 mins you're not feeling sleepy take another. I will say that many nights I don't think I'm sleepy until I close my eyes...then I'm OUT!

No recommendations for the dosage - but I have started taking an eye mask and once I put it on, I am out like a light on the plane! You might try it.

No recommendations on dosage, but I'm glad you're trying it before you're in the plane.
Melatonin is like speed to me. When I take it my heart rate increases to crazy fast and I am wired and hyper. When I took it I was convinced I was going to die by my heart racing out of my chest. It was insane.

Hate it!

Our GP had recommended it for our 15yo DD. She has been a terrible sleeper since an infant and now has nightly nightmares. They were 5mg tablets. He said to take one before bed and you could take another one in the middle of the night. He side the only downside is that if you are on them for a long period of time when you go off them your body is not used to naturally producing any melatonin and you'll just have to take some time to adjust and start producing your own again. I took a 5 mg pill the first 2 nights when we went on vacation a few weeks ago because I often don't sleep that well in hotels. Good idea to try it at home first though.
