www.nydailynews.com/news/national/king-rep-ban-social-justice-events-arizona-schools-article-1.2945382I consider this a must-read in its entirety if you care about justice. Here is the intro to the article:A conservative Arizona lawmaker, Rep. Bob Thorpe, is proposing a far-reaching law in Arizona, House Bill 2120, banning virtually every college event, activity or course which discusses social justice, skin privilege, or racial equality. Violating the law would allow the state of Arizona to levy multimillion-dollar fines and penalties against universities — removing at least 10% of their state aid. This is no joke. Arizona already passed a law targeting ethnic studies in the state. They are fulling willing and able to pass this bill as well. Please allow me to highlight some of the most disturbing sections of the bill.... I'm going to be away from my computer for a few hours but would love to hear your thoughts on this. I am horrified.

reading the bill itself, I don't have an issue with it. It's not as one-sided as his article makes it out to be, in my opinion.

"Social justice is defined as "... promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity." It exists when "all people share a common humanity and therefore have a right to equitable treatment, support for their human rights, and a fair allocation of community resources."
I was reading the bill and as noted in the title the term "social justice" was used more than once like below.
"Shall not include in its program of instruction any courses or classes events...
That promote division, resentment, or social justice toward a race, gender etc.
So I looked up the definition of "social justice".
So how is that a good thing to not be allowed to have classes on social justice or events about social justice?
I understand banning classes that create "division" and "resentment". But how did "social justice" get thrown in with these two words and their sentiment?

true... some of the specifics sound okay, but when you put it like that, @fred, it really doesn't make sense. It sounds like another one of those things that's not really needed at all, really. And why they thought they needed to try something like this again after SB1070 and all the negative backlash from it, I have no idea.
