Has anyone used this?
I just bought a roll of the black and white in hopes of making some decorative items to compliment my saddle. Specifically, I want to cut out several feathers and paint them with acrylic paint and attach them to my saddle.
I searched online but I can't seem to find many tutorials or mentions of the faux leather paper. I understand it's very much like paper until you get it wet and scrunch it up and then it takes on the texture and consistency of leather. Wondering if I need a deep cut blade to cut it? How durable is it? If you've used it please let me know your take on it!

Sorry, I was tempted to buy some at the Sizzix open house, but didn't. They had some nice samples on display. It looked and felt very much like paper to me, with a bit of texture. I'll be interested in hearing about what you and others make.

I'll be interested in hearing about what you and others make. Scrapbook.com had the white on clearance for $4.99 and the black for $6.99 so I figure it's not too expensive for an experiment. I will for sure make a post about it here once I've been able to play with the paper. Most of the reviews I read says it feels just like paper until you wash it and crumple it up. I have read several tutorials about cutting lambskin with the Silhouette so if this doesn't work I may go that route.

Ok this stuff is seriously cool.
It's like water color paper on crack. At first I felt quite let down because, as mentioned previously, it really just looks like thick paper. But I knew from reading online that a lot of the magic happens after you cut it and I was not disappointed. I cut once in white and an offset in black to give a border around the feather and to give the design two layers to make it a little more sturdy.
The more intricate cut I then took to the sink and wet it and really crumpled it up. At first I was afraid it would tear but it showed no signs of doing so. Once I was done roughing it up I used water colors on it and Sharpie markers to make my design. While that was drying I cut the offset shadow in black. Since this cut wasn't as intricate but was more like a big block I really saw the leather texture come through once it was wet and crumpled. It's super cool! Then I used Zip Dry to adhere the two layers together and I have them sitting under a weight right now.
So I've learned two things here:
A) If you really want a leather texture choose to a design with a lot of solid space B) Since my purpose is creating a saddle accessory I should use acrylic paints not water colors. Didn't think that one through.
Definitely well worth the $4-$6 per roll!

Here's a couple pictures. One is a close up so you can see the leather style texture the paper takes on once it is wet and crumpled. The packaging even says you can put it in your washing machine. I may try that next time just for fun. The other is my finished first attempt at this project. It didn't turn out quite as I expected but I think most of that is due to me using the wrong kind of paints. I'll get some acrylic paint and try again. I think, provided I use the right kind of adhesive, this paper is sturdy enough for a saddle decoration. Whether it will give me the look I'm going for or not remains to be seen.

These look great chaosisapony! I am very impressed...I never would have given a second look to the leather paper, but I think you have sold me on it...I can't stop thinking about the great texture this could add to pages! I love the way your feather turned out.
