What do you use? What do you prefer? Neck, shoulder, wrist?
I've had the standard Canon strap with a quilted cover on my dslr but it gets twisted and annoying. I generally end up just carrying on my shoulder like a purse, which is really bad form. I thought I may prefer a wrist/hand strap so that i can grab it out of the bag quick without dealing with the tangled mess of neck straps. I've researched a million and they all have pros/cons. I'm afraid if I just have a wrist strap then I will miss having it slung around me as I walk with it.
Any recommendations?

Have you looked at this kind of camera strap? There is some discussion about it voiding the cameras warranty, as it attaches at the base of the camera (where a tripod would attach.) I haven't tried it, but may when my warranty runs out.

I have a neck strap. My friend has a harness style that goes over both shoulders and across her back. She doesn't get the weight on her neck and she loves it.

I have a Black Rapid strap I got at WPPI and I love it. It attaches where the tripod would. It's long and it goes across my body. I despise neck straps because they are so uncomfortable.

I use a standard sold with the camera kit strap most of the time. I only have one camera with strap in my bag at a time so it doesn't get tangled with other straps. I also don't carry anything else in the main compartment of my bag so there isn't any thing for it to tangle with.

I'm shopping for a new camera strap too. I've had my Optitech Neoprene neck strap for years, and it's beyond time for a new one. The neck strap is okay, but get's weary after a few hours.
I like the idea of a sling strap and the Black Rapids seem quite popular, but I hate the idea of my camera just dangling there behind my hip, free to bump into any and everything.
I found one I like called the Joby Ultra fit Sling Strap for women. What I like better about it is that it works just like the Black Rapid, you can swing your camera directly up to your face to use it, but when you bring it back down to your hip there is a locking mechanism that secures it to your body. It stays secured, until you're ready to swing it back up to use your camera again. It's also half the price of the Black Rapid.
I don't have it yet, but will be ordering it soon, so I don't have first hand advise on it yet. But you can check it out on youtube and at other places online.

I've used the Black Rapid strap for women for several years now and love it. It is so comfortable to wear! I'll never go back to a regular strap.

Thanks for suggestions. I've read a lot about Black Rapid, which seems to be the popular choice. Will look into it.
Debbie - I looked into the Joby too and I was almost sold on it...then I read a few too many reviews with people saying their cameras broke off from it and fell. Could just be a fluke, but I duno.
I guess I'm not crazy about the dangling camera at the hip either...

I know just what you mean Paper Goddess. I read those reviews too about the Joby strap and cameras falling, and I also don't like the dangling cameras from the Black Rapid strap. Which is why I still haven't made a decision and I'm still using my "centuries" old Optitech strap-which I hate. It's too thick and get's sweaty. I've been meaning to replace it for years.
The Joby reviews scare me too much to buy one-I can't stand the thought of having my camera crash to the ground although on one of the reviews a reviewer mentioned buying an additional tether strap (which would give you two-not just one-places where the camera would be anchored) in case it ever did fall. I am considering doing that. I don't use heavy cameras anyway. Currently I have a Nikon D40X and my new one will be the Nikon Df which is also lightweight. I hate the huge, brick like cameras personally. I have small hands and short fingers, and the huge cameras don't fit me well.

Update to my strap dilemma:
I looked into all the suggestions here, I just couldn't decide between all the shoulder/sling straps and just felt it would still take up too much room. I entertained making my own wristlet off of a pattern I saw on Pinterest (and i still may do that) but i was short on time. Last minute I stopped in a Best Buy. I bought a Joby wrist strap which is just a piece of polyester, nothing special and a Case Logic hand strap that screws into the bottom. I ended up using both, so I attached the hand strap to the right side and put the wrist strap on the left hook. This way I was able to grab my camera out of bag easy by wrist strap. For security I would put my left wrist thru wrist strap then use the right hand strap as well. It worked good enough for me, and I even carried my camera like this on a few hikes.
So glad I got rid of the bulky neck strap, the wrist/hand configuration is def more comfortable for me! I will probably look into a few better handstrap options.

Good to see your update PaperGoddess and your solution sounds like a great solution for you. For myself, I can't stand wrist straps. It's just something about having the camera attached that close to me-it makes it feel claustrophobic. BUT, I am so happy for you that you have found your solution. For me, I'm still doing research and trying to decide. I think I'm going to try the Joby strap for women that I mentioned with the additional tether strap that was mentioned in the review on amazon. Like I said my camera doesn't weight a ton so I'm not too worried about it falling off, and with the additional tether it will have a safety net. If the Black Rapid had some kind of lock down mechanism to keep your camera from swinging around your hip (like a gibbon on a vine in the jungle) I'd be all over it and buy it in a second. But it doesn't. And I've watched the videos and seen folks with them in action. I don't like how your camera just hangs there swinging back and fro. Debbie in MD.

Thanks Debbie. Yes I def recommend sort of rigging up your own configuration to make you feel comfortable. You can always use a carabiner to make some sort of additional safety strap. Look forward to hearing ur experience with Joby strap.

We have a RapidStrap that dh loves, but I don't like that dangling feeling. I use a one that is very similar to the standard strap that comes with the camera, just with a bit more padding.

I have been using my PhatStraps with minky back strap for about 3 years. I got it off Etsy, but I think they also have a website now.
