We leave next week to take my ds 9 hours away for college. Not a fan... Just sayin'. Anyway we have a lot of things on our list but I figure we can get most of it there on move in day. I will be staying through the weekend so if there are things that he deems necessary once we get there I can get them before i leave.
So finally here is my question: if we use the space bags for all of his clothes will they be extremely wrinkled once we set them free? Cuz the dude will not be using an iron. He's already told me that would never get used. If we are able to just use some Downey wrinkle remover stuff and call it good then we may use the bags. Otherwise, we will be using the suitcases.
Any hints or tips for moving this kid to another state would be greatly appreciated!

We always used space bags to pack for vacations and our clothes were never terribly wrinkled once we arrived at our destination. A trip to college would be similar to a vacation in regards to how much time they're stored in space bags.

My son is going 9 hours away also. I have a corner started in the living room. We did the bed bath and beyond service where you use the scanner to select your items in your local store and then pick it up, bagged and ready In the future town. You don't pay for it until you pick it up, . We will definitely put a couple things back. As of today, we bought one set of sheets, so I could wash them and another set will be at BBB. The memory foam mattress is in my amazon cart. We have shopped a lot from home: most electronics and cords, towels, school supplies, organizers.
I AM thinking about the space saver bags. I also told him to pile up the winter clothes now, so that they will be ready and all he has to do is swap them out at fall break or t-day break for the summer clothes. He has tons of clothing and shoes.
He is trying of to communicate with roommate about fridge, rug and TV. Something's are on a wait and see time line, iron, printer, mirror, extra chair. And we might use overstock or amazon prime to send some things.

thanks for y'all's input. I think we will use the bags. I may do the BB&B thing but ds is adamant that all he needs are sheets, a blanket, a pillow, a towel, toiletries and clothes and he's set!

And since he's a boy he may just be right about that. My dd had a friend from high school start at her college in January, so she and another girl helped him move in since he was in their dorm. Dd said that after his dad and brother hauled it upstairs, then said goodbye, they started unpacking. Dd looked around and asked where the rest of it was. She wondered if the dad was coming back with another load. The kid said "um no, this is it." Dd and her roommate are still talking about that, because there is NO WAY either of them could possibly manage with that tiny amount of stuff.

Does he have a roommate? They may want a tv, game system, fridge and microwave. also, look at your schools packing list. Besides the laptop, ext. cord. Surge protector, HDMI cord and Ethernet cord. The school also requested a cd drive if the laptop didn't have one. What about a laundry hamper? A lot of info that I have read reports that the shelves at big box stores are cleared out move in weekend. (In some locations)

Moved two kids to schools 900+ miles away from home. if you can, ship things like bedding etc to arrive just before you do. for dd we sent the bedding, new printer, and picked it up from the mailcenter on move in day. go buy things like detergent at the nearest target/walmart. if there is a bed bath and beyond, get things there when you get to town.
send winter clothes later - flat rate boxes and the ups store will be your friend. they love getting packages, and you can sneak treats in.
good luck!
