To give people like those were posting on this thread the opportunity to express more code out rage" or ridicule. Knowing I'd be inaugurated tomorrow, I'd be laughing my way all the way to the White House Why would you be laughing?
The President serves at the pleasure of the people. He is a public servant. He should care that people are outraged at his lack of seriousness into what this job entails.
If he is in fact laughing, as you said you would be, then that shows both of you only care about one thing - being the winner. Not actually being right, just being able to stick your tongue out and say you won.
m Bingo.

I actually don't think it's funny. He presented this photo as though it should become part of the history of the Trump presidency and yet it's fake. It's the concierge desk at Mar-a-Lago with the regular desktop comments removed, he's holding an empty pad and a pen with the cap still on it, pretending to write his inaugural address. This may well become part of OUR American history and yet everything about it is a complete and total fabrication. So it begins. Another lie... don't mean by you, but by him

For Pete's sake...every president since the invention of the camera has "posed" for candid shots. Albeit this photographer was an idiot for the staging, but still. Do you honestly think all the photos of Obama, Bush, Clinton are candid "off the cuff" photos?

Do you honestly think all the photos of Obama, Bush, Clinton are candid "off the cuff" photos? Of course they all aren't candid photos. Like you said, I think the majority of people on this thread are making fun of the staging of it. A picture of him sitting at a desk, smiling and saying "I'm looking forward to you hearing my speech" or something like that would have sufficed. Or perhaps a photo showing him more "off camera" actually writing something or surrounded by pages of notes would have been a fine idea. The ridiculous cheesy smile + blank notepad + concierge desk is what's giving people something to talk about.

Are you unable to discern the difference between a staged photo and a lie? If this was just some cheesy, poorly staged photo of the man, whatever. That he presented it to the world with the lie about writing his inauguration speech is the problem. Do you honestly think Pete Souza would have ever done something like this?

I'm laughing at all the sky is falling posts. We survived Obama. We will survive Trump. Somehow those who supported Hillary seem to think they cornered the market on intelligence and have a wonderful candidate. You were wrong. Now if it turns out that Trump is as bad as you seem to think he is, I'll be the first to say it, unlike those of you who supported Hillary and Obama. However I refuse to get old Henny Penny about every single thing Trump does. In my opinion it dilutes any legitimate argument she may have about what he's doing

Unbelievable. Why go to such lengths to stage something so ridiculous and so easy to call out?
^^^^^

I think if he and any leader is "naked" it should be pointed out. That is one of the jobs of the press. But that brings us back to a whole 'nuther subject concerning him...

Maybe you will survive Trump. I hope so, I really do. However, Obama was admired and respected by all other world leaders who were willing to work with him without fear of backlash or having their business all over Twitter because Trump decides he doesn't like what they say or do. There is a big YUGE difference with Obama's personality than Trump's. Even you cannot deny that. That may hurt him in the long term.

I AM angry that he thinks the American people are so easily duped. And that so many of them will be duped by this photo.
Of COURSE sometimes photos are staged. But if he wanted a staged photo showing him hard at work writing his speech, at least use a desk or table in his actual living space, not the frickin' concierge desk in the lobby!!!
I am CERTAIN he did NOT sit in the lobby of the hotel to write his speech.* THAT is why I am angry, that he thinks we can be fooled this easily, and that so many of us are / were.
* if he wrote the speech at all... because, speech writers?? I'm going to hazard a guess and say that most Presidents don't write anything all by themselves without writers. Heck, I'd be GLAD if he used a speech writer to write his inauguration speech; it might end up being coherent, then.

I saw an early copy of his speech. It's going to be yuge, the bestest speech ever, all the other speeches will be jealous. Melania helped him write it. It's bigly good. It starts off "Four score and seven years ago, I had a dream. A dream that this would be a day that would live in infamy." Trust me, it's going to be yuge.

Did a White House photographer ever ask, say, Bill Clinton to pretend he was talking on the phone? Maybe.
But would President Clinton then specifically instruct his press office to announce he was actually talking to Boris Yeltsin during that "call"? I highly doubt it.
Add that our new guy basically self-published the lie and that makes this a ruse only Donald Trump would attempt.
Or a middle schooler.

^Recovered memory: my kids used to love to go to IKEA and hang around in all the room set-ups pretending they were Very Important People doing Very Important Things.
And they were young and naïve enough to think that they actually looked important "using" the cardboard computers and plastic telephones props on the desks.

I'm so tired of the idea that you people seem to have that unless we voted the way you think is the right way to vote then obviously we were duped or we weren't smart enough to see what was going on. That kind of elitist attitude is precisely the reason, or one of them, that Hillary lost. People are just plain tired of the Condescension. I am willing to bet that I am more highly educated than 95% of you. My friends are the same way. We were not duped. We understand exactly what was at stake in the selection. We understand trumps strengths and his weaknesses. Get over yourselves with the idea that you're somehow smarter than everyone else. Truly smart people don't feel the need to constantly claim that they are smarter than anyone who disagrees with them. That's what insecure people do.

so, ~Lauren~, I'm just curious: What do YOU think, then, when you see a photo of Donald Trump sitting at a desk which has been shown to be the CONCIERGE'S desk at his hotel, where he says he's hard at work writing his speech? Are you okay with that? Or do you actually believe that he was writing his speech in the lobby of the hotel?

I'd be willing to bet that there are a whole bunch of peas who have higher education degrees, myself included, but don't feel the need to bring it up. That's what insecure people do. ETA: And by the way, this: "Truly smart people don't feel the need to constantly claim that they are smarter than anyone who disagrees with them." is a bit rich coming from someone who just told the board that they are better educated than the rest of them. Not that it matters, I'm pretty confident Lauren has me on ignore. I may not have a law degree but at least I have balls.

I'm nauseated thinking about how far his arm will be stretching to pat himself on the back during his speech. Maybe he should ask Melania to write it. She did so well with hers. peasapie - best line ever, thank you!
Winter White House? Isn't he the same guy who said he'd never take vacations? Going to FL in the winter sounds like a vacation to me, but what do I know?
I completely understand why those who opposed Hillary voted against her, but in doing that, a person who truly doesn't seem to get it will be leader of the free world in less than 24 hours. I'm hoping he surprises me--I want him to succeed. But I don't think that's gonna happen.
In the meantime, it helps to laugh. And he's doing so much for the comedy world--keeping and creating jobs and all that.

Just because you are "highly educated" doesn't mean that you are smart. Hopefully there is still time for you. PS you were duped. And us uneducated elitist liberals will be here to remind you everyday of the fact that you were duped.

Truly smart people don't feel the need to constantly claim that they are smarter than anyone who disagrees with them. That's what insecure people do. FWIW, not all of us are "you people." I don't think anyone needed to vote the way I vote. I also don't put all Trump voters into one pool. I'm not sure I've ever posted my thoughts on Trump voters, and if I have, I would only remark on the Trump voters that I know in real life. This is what I can tell you about the Trump voters that I know. Some are hugely educated. Some are rough necks who live in trailers. They all have the same things in common. Can you guess what they are?? There is simply no rationale for voting for a willfully ignorant individual like Trump to be the leader of our country. In my opinion, people up and had a snit fit. Feel condescended to? Vote to undermine our country. Feeling slighted by Mexicans? Vote to end our country as we know it. Scared out of your wits that anyone who is of a different religion is going to harm you. Vote to make the US a laughing stock. That is all that any Trump voters have really done. There is nothing I've heard from anyone that successfully defends my opinion. (Not that anyone is required to, mind you. That has just been me holding out a grain of hope in the humanity of this country.) I was even going to "give him a chance," but he has blown that right out of the gate with every move he has made and every thing he has said. Mostly, I just hear Trump voters say we don't understand. Well, the sense that I have to understand this is absurd. If anything, Trump voters should understand what they've done and just own up to it. DeVos, anyone? Perry? You guys really okay with this craziness? So, don't peg me as "outraged" at this silly photo. I'm only outraged that short sighted people (even smart, educated ones) had a huge snit fit that will greatly impoverish this country.

Didn't Trump claim he was smart? Smarter than the intelligence community and generals? By that logic, Trump is insecure.
Plus, if you're so smart and secure, why did you feel the need to throw out the "I'm better educated than you" card?
