My last day in Australia, and I've woken up to teaming rain - even the sky is sad I am going! Last night we had tickets for the soccer - DS and DDiL are club members of one of the teams here, so have tickets to all home matches - so we ate at the game. We had German sausages with sauerkraut and mustard in a bun - I did joke with my son that I didn't need to travel all this way to eat that! My son will be treating me to lunch before we head to the airport, then my meals will be at the mercy of Emirates Airlines for 28 hours. I'm sorry that you are on your last day of your vacation to be with your family. Have a safe and easy flight home. Are you at least on a direct flight? There are no direct flights from Australia to Europe, always at least one layover - it is just too far for a single flight. I have a short stop in Singapore and a longer one in Dubai, where I intend to shower and change to winter clothes. It is all one booking at least, so I don't have to worry about luggage en route.

So, a question for all. Do you post your dinner plans and then come back later to check in on everyone else? I sure do. It's so much more than reading about your dinners. If I don't come back, I feel like I've missed out on what everyone is doing today! I try to check back in a few times throughout the day/evening and if I can't, this thread and the birthday thread are the first threads I check out when I log back on. I too feel that if I don't come back, I've missed out on what's happening with everyone in our little group (aka tribe). The dinner thread is my favorite thread and I appreciate all (regulars, part-timers, and first-timers) who participate. I enjoy reading what other people are having for dinner and getting a glimpse into their lives. I even enjoy the one word responses, hop2 Thank you to scrapmaven and leannec for keeping this thread going!

scrapmaven .....LOL at blueberries 5 feet away!!! My dear Dad is visiting, annnnd, although I love him dearly and we have lots of laughs together, I swear if he asks me ONE MORE TIME how to defrost blueberries in the microwave, I'm gonna lose it ! Whenever I want to remember something, I WRITE IT DOWN so that I don't have to keep bugging someone to tell me! newlywoods03 ---Wow, happy birthday---which means, you got married the day before your birthday, correct? .....I hope you and DH enjoyed your "carb city" Mexican din-din! My first test-batch of sourdough bread JUST came out of the oven.....I can't wait to see if it's the right texture and/or TANGY enough. If it's not, I'm gonna be a little ticked---it has taken five days, and LOTS of very specific directions. DH is having a routine colonoscopy tomorrow, so he's on clear liquids, and acting like it is the most DRAMATIC thing ever !!!!!! Sheeesh, for the MANY I've had, I just did it and kept quiet about it. Dad and I had a cold meatloaf sandwich----which is my FAVE part of making meatloaf

When I went to Raley's I found out one of my favorite cashiers/employees is leaving. Today was Julie's last day ~ glad I went when I did so I could say good-bye to her. And pork chops it is!

I made these Honey Lime Sriracha Chicken Poppers from the Tasty (Buzzfeed) site. My DD made me up a cookbook from the Tasty recipes through Snapfish. It was supposed to have been my Christmas present but she only thought of it a couple of days before Christmas, and it arrived 2 days ago. She did a great job in choosing recipes that she thought I'd like. Most of them were ones that I had saved to try, and some of them are ones that I have already made and enjoyed.

Happy birthday newlywoods03 and safe travels sueg ! This is one of those days where I don't feel like eating. I've wandered between the fridge, pantry & garage fridge several times and nothing interests me, not even Lindor chocolate. I'm not sure there are enough leftovers to keep everyone happy, but I think I have to admit defeat and declare a fend for yourself night.

So, a question for all. Do you post your dinner plans and then come back later to check in on everyone else? I sure do. It's so much more than reading about your dinners. The time difference throws me out. When you are all talking about what you're having for dinner on 19th, it's already the 20th here. Last year I was going by the date on the thread. If it said "What's for dinner 12/19" I wouldn't see that thread until 12/20 my time and post what I'd cooked the night before on 12/19. This year I have been posting what I plan to cook that night, even though the date is one day ahead of what the rest of you are posting about. So when the thread says "What's for dinner 1/19" I will actually post what I am planning to cook that tonight, which is 1/20. (Except on this thread I posted what I had last night, 19th January.) PS. I wish you guys would do your dates the right way round. It is 20th January so you should write it 20/1/17 - DD/MM/YY - like the rest of the world. It's very confusing for me!

Considering I just ate some cake out of the pan with a fork in the dark kitchen, and then my DH warmed up a hot dog for himself, it must be a fend for yourself night. Wonder what the child will eat?
I'll try again tomorrow.

clarencelynn....mmmmmm....cake directly out of the pan My sister realized a few years ago that cake, brownies, pie, etc. seems to taste BETTER when eaten directly from the pan and/or taking little bits and pieces here and there, instead of putting a regular-sized slice on a plate and eating it all right away.....I know that may sound crazy to some of you, but I agree with her!

I don't want to miss any gossip. cadoodlebug , I've been meaning to point out to you, the ribs are on sale this week. AussieMeg , if you say you're going to make something for dinner, I assume it's the next day for you. I think we all know you're a day ahead of most of the rest of us, or if we don't, we should.

If I don't come back, I feel like I've missed out on what everyone is doing today! For example, it was after 10 p.m. last night when I came back to the thread and found anxiousmom had a new job. Yea for you!!! I don't always check the same night but I always check these threads when I'm trying to make a meal plan for the week. I am so tired of making meal plans over and over, every week like freakin' clockwork. LOL. I just get tired of choosing, feel like I am in a rut, etc. If I am LUCKY, the SO will offer up one suggestion of what he wants to eat. PS. I wish you guys would do your dates the right way round. It is 20th January so you should write it 20/1/17 - DD/MM/YY - like the rest of the world. It's very confusing for me! Well, that is how I write the date on checks.... (I don't remember why I started doing that. Something must have gotten messed up back in the old days when I paid everything by check and used numbers, so now I write the date on checks as 20 Jan 17 or whatever.)

A very happy birthday to newlywoods03 ! Thursday is almost always a good dinner night because it's my Publix shopping day. The fridge is full! For me tonight, a big fruit salad and some toast. It's the time of winter I begin to crave out of season fruit, so tonight it's strawberries, blueberries, cataloupe and pineapple. Yum! I'll make DH his favorite pepper/ground beef/rice skillet meal. So, a question for all. Do you post your dinner plans and then come back later to check in on everyone else? I sure do. It's so much more than reading about your dinners. If I don't come back, I feel like I've missed out on what everyone is doing today! For example, it was after 10 p.m. last night when I came back to the thread and found anxiousmom had a new job. Yea for you!!! I try and come back a few times per day If not, I catch up in the evening. This is also my favorite thread and it's so nice to get to know everyone and read about their triumphs and support them through their challenges. AussieMeg, I think of those peas who are not in the USA and wish I could adjust for your time zone and date line as well.
